First and foremost the game should make fun .... yeah there are some less skillfull players here and they may use less fancy strategies and tacticts
And win ... does that mean they deserve to be raged into the ground just because you expect more proffesional play? ... sry but that in itself would be elitism of the highest level and needs to be purged by a big stake immidiately ...

Esport isnt the problem... its simply a attitude problem ....
Let your enemy play however he wants and just suck it up if you lose in a cheap way as much as you would like to go supernova because it just happens .... what does rage help? Nothing
    What does it damage? Everything
The same goes for when a teammate might have messed up in a team or alliance tournament Which is probably were most friendships end and feuds begin the quickest .. raging doesnt help it makes things just worse
Yeah knowing deciplin is a mean bitch but you gotta keep it

Losing is great. Without losing there can be no wining.

Losing can help define you as a person, because it is all about how you handle it. Does losing make you angry, sad, blame everything and everyone else around you, or does it help encourage you to try again and strive to be better. Considering this is PA really you should be having fun

As for when to delete your commander. I say fight until there is nothing left and then die like a man.

Once in a 3v3 my team lost 2 commanders. I managed to get off planet and take full control of a moon and was headed to the 2nd last moon which was unoccupied.
Mean while our main base was getting smashed on the start planet....My team mate with his lone commander decided we had lost already and deleted him....
    The rage.

    re: Teabagging
Some people also need to learn how to win with dignity.

I don't know if being a stubborn bastard counts as being a sore loser.

I've won quite a few games after losing a major portion of my economy mid-game, not all by just leaving the planet.

A cynical part of me smiles when someone rages at me if I've beaten them. The best way to react to them is to ignore them.

    Well, yes....

    Because you know.

Be sportsmanlike. Don't be a sore loser and all that. It's why in sports like football you go and shake the other people's hands after you play them.

Yes they do deserve it. If they don't lose with dignity, they probably don't win graciously. And besides, there will *always* be someone better than you at something, so you may as well learn to lose in a way that ensures you don't lose the respect of those you are competing with..

Having fun, such as taunts and teabagging, is fine when kept in it's place.

Taking the game too seriously for example, when you don't get your win it will make you leave because you want to participate in something you are overpowering others in.

Taking the game too seriously can also make you take a win too far, use unfun gameplay and unfun gamechat to make another player leave this game.

What does either accomplish? One drives you game to game searching for someone you can hurt. The other drives the large playerbase and fun setting away, making the game more strict and hurtful until it is filled with nothing but you and people who "do what you do" to you (lame tactics and smash talking afterwards).

I have seen at least one game digress to that. Players winning, stomping other players with not-a-chance tactics, players left. Winning players play other players, stomp people used to stomping, when stompers can no longer stomp, they leave. When the last stomping party is in a game you can't matchmake on half the time, they quit too. Annihilation achieved.
I would tell them to calm down if they did it to me. Nothing personal, would discuss his opinion of the outcome, concede if he was right, wish him better, offer advice, offer to play teams, whatever would smooth things over.

It always irks me when I have a day nothing seems to go remotely well. All games I play are failures in their earliest stages, even games I'd play against a normally unchallenging AI. Then someone smashes me in a way I almost take personally, I might rage or not honestly, and if I don't I might rage without my mic being on at my own desk and eventually I just walk away and figure alternative things out for the rest of the day.

    Well, bro.

I'll put it to you like this. When a person rages because I beat them it makes me happy. Why? Because that is when I realize I have done my job as a General. I'm not a fan of "close" games. I'll admit, they are fun when it comes down to the wire and I catch an opponents commander by surprise. I have had my rear end HANDED to me by guys that seem to have twice the stuff that I do. Don't let it bother you when you win, and someone rages. I like it. That tells you that you out gunned and out smarted your opponent in every aspect. Wear that rage your opponent spews as a cloak of (I just wasted an hour of your life).

I'll leave you with this. In combat, it is always better to have the answer, than the question.

    It's so true.

Or... you can offer them a revenge play, beat them up one time more, and enjoy what's coming next out of their keyboards :p

For me, this is the essence of having fun in a competitive game. If you see you're loosing and don't see a way out, gg. It's not embarrassing to loose, and you shouldn't feel bad about it. Stay in the game while you think you have a chance, but as soon as things are clearly going downhill, there's no sense in staying around. This may be different for other people, but for me the frantic fight to stay alive as long as possible is not fun at all. So, as soon as you feel that this is where it's headed, cut your losses and start a new game instead. For me that maximizes the fun.

Of course, this does present some problems in team matches if your team mates don't see it that way.

    Errrrr....
you just took the whole post out of context ...

The question was shall someone be raged on just because he defeated you with rather cheap moves and you expected better play of them ... obviously NO!

You just sayed that it is ok to rage on people that defeated you with cheap moves.... But exactly that makes YOU the sore loser not them ...

My mistake. I saw the line break, thought that paragraph was a second idea. Thought 'more professional play' was in regards to professionalism, and the elitist attitude was the idea of calling someone out on unprofessional and poor sporting behaviour.

I.e. I thought you were saying it was not ok to rage about people who rage at you when they lose, because you expect better sportsmanship

    Shame faced LOL.

Exactly. If someone beats me with a more essential, rude approach, I could say that my game play is more elegant but surely I haven't been smart enough. Good point.

    The TLDR version:

If you lose, dont cry about it, regardless of how or why you lost.

If you won, dont be a smug ******* and rub it into your enemies face.

It's just a vidya game. Unfortunately, I've only been playing this a week and a half, and have a decent win ratio in team games (2v2, 2v2v2 mainly). In one game I had a guy bitch at me for using air and generally acting a sore loser.

In one of the games I lost, a realmy or two came in to the teamspeak room and decided to be a bit elitist about things. I was cordial with them, but as someone who doesn't naturally gloat when I win, I found their subsequent attempts to goad me into some kind of verbal confrontation rather childish.

Id rather not have to deal with either, but get straight onto the next game!

I'm not talking about that. I mean after a game is done and dusted and then they call you all sorts of profanity, blame lag and call your tactics cheap to justify to no one but themselves as to why they lost.

All the people would be getting 2 or 10 points by defeating me yesterday :p
