I don't know about everyone else but I don't like orbital fabricators.

What if deploying satellites was more like it looks in the initial kick starter trailer. The orbital launcher builds a satellite inside a rocket and then the player has to deploy it, much like a nuke. Once a satellite is in place then it can't be moved. This would make managing orbital units way easier and the UI around orbital a lot easier too.

To get units to other worlds you would build a Unit Transport Rocket(Astraeus) and load it up while it's still on the launcher, then fire it to wherever you want it. When it gets to its destination it pops open and the units happily crash down to the surface of their destination.

It's a pretty big change from how it currently works but I really don't like orbital fabbers and how fiddly they are to use and how orbital overlaps the planet making it hard to grab orbital units without grabbing ground units also... I think orbital should be simpler and assist the rest of the game rather than be a complete layer of its own.

The alternative is to have a metric frack ton of orbital launchers. Oh wait - we already had this.....and I think we are pretty annoyed with it.

I do think orbital laser sats need to be reduced in cost, but everything else seems fine.

Orbital fabbers fit with how the rest of the game functions: you have combat units and fab units.

Now we just need a space station with a massive rocket to complete this circle of life....

orbital fabbers will have further use once gas giant are in, and their ability to build teleporters on planet is invaluable atm.

I think the orbital layer UI stuff still has a bunch more work going into it.

The factories are good for building certain types of equipment or satellites, but the addition of orbital fabs are a much needed advancement to that area. What would make them much more usable would be the separation of what they build, having space between the various satellites so it is much easier to select them once they have been built. Also just making the damn avengers have their own factory and being produced specifically from that.

I don't think orbital fabbers do fit with the rest of the game. No other fabrication unit builds units.

But no factory builds radar or energy-producing 'units'

    Good, we're in a agreement then... :p

Add to that the arbitrary distinction between air units and orbital fighters leading to that whole Air 1.5 thing...

I for one would like to see a UEF-gantry-like structure that deploys big flippin' orbital space station factories, with functionalities like repairing nearby units, producing orbital units and perhaps even ODST capabilities.

It would be slow as hell though
