Sorry, but this is very unrealistic, your own units kill your own base, just because an important fusion reactor is in the way... hey... who cares, shoot guys! I liked FF in Supcom but a total 100% FF is just overkill.

Not true. It can easily happen even if I prepare for it.

And even if I'm a skilled player, I think it is a dumb mechanic.

"Because you didn't plan for it" doesn't automatically make it a good game mechanic.

For example use the unitcannon, you use it to land a tank in each corner of the enemy base, or just place it close to important buildings... then his own base defense is pounding on the unit and everything that is in the way, just to kill that one tank... hell no.

Very good counter argument to "just build defenses all the way around your base" – even though that's a poor argument to begin with.

Assuming unit cannons can drop units inside of your base, then building defenses all the way around will be a bad idea anyway -- we'll need laser towers scattered throughout our base to deal with the fact that enemy units could drop absolutely anywhere. There will be no perimeter.

In which case you'd better spread your base out because not only can you no longer defend a perimeter but it'll save you some casualties when your Holkins finally get turned around and start firing into your base, blowing up your own stuff.

    ...which will be awesome.

The problem would be, no matter how well defended you are, you could use this trick to outsmart enemy defense or units to get a structure kill just with a single unit, spreading just a unit here a unit there... that is in my opinion not cool at all. Even if you would have a blob of units in your spread out base, they would kill your own structures as well.

So your strategy is to build defensive structures everywhere.

That's a bad strategy with current game mechanics as you won't have enough metal to invest in offensive units or expand and will be eventually overrun.

Face the reallity slamz friendly fire without the artilhery thinking who to shoot will eventually force every single player to become a turtle afraid of their own artilhery/bombers

    Another good point.

Even though the community generally frowns upon turtling as a strategy, it cannot be tossed out.

A lot of people enjoy turtling. Especially casual players.

I was a casual SupCom player and love turtling in SupCom. Tons of things to exploit. Bubble up with shields and long range artillery and then build the fun experimentals to win.

So this method ironically promotes and discourages turtleing at the same time.

face the reality ... what you said is sock juice.

that will not happen, you don't know.

that's not what happens in FA.

friendly fire is the whole point of simulated projectiles. (most of it)

We're not arguing against friendly fire.

We're arguing against dumb units that will shoot themselves in the face.

The problem sir is that FA and PA are compleatly diferent games FA didnt had the orbital layer neither the orbital cannon we cannot use one game as the absolout proof of what will happen in the future

Unit cannons make this kind of thing a lot more worrisome, I would agree.

If some sort of way to avoid friendly fire was possible to make, it should simply be a firing mode, probably on by default. In an emergency situation you could switch to scorched earth mode.

I think tatsujb has a good point. What's the point of simulating projectiles without friendly fire?

Sorry but i have to disagree friendly fire is an expression used when someone shoot an ally or kill an ally hardly it means someone shooting their heads off thats suicide and suicide is what artilhery is doing blowing up your own units that protect her

Shooting your own unit is friendly fire – but it's avoidable and stupid friendly fire. Friendly fire is supposed to be a rare occurrence that is an accident. Not something that is expected and easily caused.

There's a different between choosing targets and shooting at anything even if they destroy themselves.

Friendly fire is something that should be an accident, not something that is expected.

Modern day military doesn't carpet bomb a town because there's one bad guy in it. Heck. Any military has done this since the first ranged weapon was invented.
