Congrats on putting words in my mouth ...
But tell me what are you are part of gpg, nordic games or uber?
Are you a developer did you make your own game or programm that is not related to something existing but totaly standalone or ifyou did something related how big is that programm can it be considered an expansion or a complete programm of its own and not just an addon?
Is a modder automatically a developer?
But foremost where did i ever say that just because you didn't work with the original developer team doesnt make you a "real" dev ...
Fact is official development on fa has ceased ... gpg doesnt own the rights anymore they are not working on it and from nordicgames who own the rights now didnt come any informaation whatsoever on patching or further improving the game ....
You are not part of gpg not part of nordic games .... from the official side of things
Supcom fa is a done game it is feature complete and there will no further support for it
Unless officialy announced from nordic games ...

Oh and your stance on early access is a joke .... and i realy mean that ...
Unlike preorders buying into early access makes good sense. You can get early into a game
To test it and provide feedback watching it grow and develope over time to hopefully something amazing ... and this is the risk you dont know how something will turn out ...
Sooo ... should any casual gamer get into early access ... absolutly not
Who could get into early access: ENTHUSIASTS and supporters of the gameconcept
Uber themselves said that time and again .... it is even said in tbs video ... if yo are not sure what to get wait and leave early access to enthusiasts .... and while he may against them
At least in covering them he stated that early access is actualy a great thing for the games industry .. especialy for indies ... because god knows how many people got pissed off by big companies and their so called triple a games that became a bloody mess ala rome 2 and battlefield 4 .... the problem with early access currently is that because it is relativly a new thing to buy into it is subject for high possible exploit and abuse ...

But that is simple ... if you cant get enough information about something then DONT buy it
In the very end no matter how much information is available its still up to the consumer to buy something or not .. also said in the video at the end ....

This is still no reason to deny the concept of early access to people that have an intrest in it
It simply requiers propper guidelines and information ....
Who does the developteam want to get into
And what does the intrested consumer need to know to not feel riped off of his money
This is the transparence That needs to be there
And in my opinion uber did a good job on that being tranparent enough to the consumer
If there is one to critisize then it would be valve for not putting in the other priceoptions uber had on their mainsite

Thing is, we are also getting the completed product. It is not like they are going to turn around and tell us when it's release that we have to go and purchase the retail version.

Fact of the matter is we paid for /EARLY ACCESS/ and we got what we paid for. The same as the preordering the phone example. You pay for it early. The exception here is we are getting a constantly improving product, improving until release and then some.

Everywhere you can purchase it it says it is early access. I bought on humble bundle and it very clearly stated that you are buying into a beta and the product is not finished.

    Want links?
    https://www.humblebundle.com/store/p/planetaryannihilation_storefront

Quoting the bits it says about early access:

1st line before even the game description! OH WOW!
I'm sorry maybe I was wrong and they did not mention that it was a beta and you aren't buying a completed project.

    Steam:

Oh wow. Again? These aren't obscure comments shoved at the bottom of the page. They are right at the top before anything else.

    There it is.

    No it's not the same.

Contractually, if you preorder a phone and the manufacturer doesn't deliver, you get a refund.
You can also get a refund on at any point in time as long as the product is not release.

At no point in time the manufacturer has the money in his pockets. It has POTENTIALLY that money, he can eventually make an assumption and spend more than he has based on that, but he can't spend the actual money from the pre-order.

With early access, the developer has the money immediately, can spend it, and eventually can decide to change his mind and stop developing the product. You won't have any refund.
In the long run, I can't see that going in the right direction. They will make more money, sooner, with less effort. Why bother finishing the game at all?

You can say it's the same for kickstater. Except that on kickstarter, you don't buy a game, you donate money for making a game. Very different things.

And for the last time, I'm not saying that it's not stated that PA is unfinished, I'm saying it's sold as a released product (that's how early access works), and for MORE MONEY than the release price.

You actually know that the current price of $50 is higher than the price of the game when it's really released right? (that would be like $30 if they continue their policy of following kickstater price + 10 dollars).

THAT IS NOT STATED ANYWHERE ON YOUR LINKS.

Before calling me troll, you people should learn to read.

Rome 2 and Battlefield 4 released in state where they was not playable and they only been fixed somehow in 3-4 months, but still have serious problems. There also many other games released completely broken, but I don't play many games these days so can't give more examples.

Might be PA is not feature complete, but even in alpha it's was playable if you met minimal requirements. So for me it's obviously much better than releases of broken games that big publishers do all the time.

But the donation included that we'd get a copy of the released product in return, additionally to the early access and other things.

You didn't have to buy it. Whatever the case, you were able to get full information about the state of the product on the internet.

That's entirely optional. I remember some kickstater that doesn't give anything for the first tier of the reward, or not having early access at all (god bless them).
Having the game is a bonus, not something written in stone.

Nobody had to buy anything. That argument can't be used in favor of selling unfinished games more than finished ones.
Otherwise you could say "but in 10 years, the game will be like 5$, as you don't have to buy anything..." That kind of argument, sadly heard here, is really stupid.

Someone that is interested in RTS.
That see the game in humble bundle or steam sales.
Decide that it's interesting, and buy it.

Don't you think it would be honest to tell them that the price they are paying isn't right?

Having information from the internet is irrelevant.
Any retailer has to inform his clients clearly, that's honestly, and actually I think it's in the law.

Also, let's consider the kid is smarter, and search the internet. Where the info about the price is?

I had 5 pages of answer like "But they can see it on the internet!" but still not a single link....

They have a website, they have a forum, they do livestreams, release gameplay videos, there are articles written about it, trailers, comments, podcasts.

    Sry, but no.

The information is there. You just have to look it up. If you're buying something without looking up the details, then it's your fault. That's true no matter what you buy. Buying something on steam is no different. Also there is some useful information on the steam sales-page. It clearly states that the game isn't finished.

The price is justified by getting early access. You paid more money to get something earlier, because you just couldn't wait till release. It's just how capitalism works. Demand and supply. I think in English it's called price elasticity. Also you were able to look up the price on steam. I don't know about the Uber store.

It has been entirely your choice to pay premium for being able to play the game early, with being able to aquire full knowledge about the current state of the game and the anticipated goals.

And to be honest, why would they suddenly stop developing the game? It was a success, and more sales are anticipated when the games is being released. They also obviously like doing it, and they're more than qualified for the job.

    So where's your problem?

My problem is you are claiming that the info is there, but still didn't pointed any link.

(also, I backed the game, so I don't know why you keep saying that it's my fault...)

    Small nitpick
they're teamed with Nordic Games now.
your own private opinion, not the way I see it. somewhere between moding and developing the line is blurred. and FAF is just right there.

Creative assemblies said they'd maybe make a more than two player co-op campaign due to the tsunami of demands from their players. I am a part of those and if ever you play FOTS I doubt you won't come swell the ranks. They never made it.
SupCom and FA had a strictly 1 player Campaign. FAF turned both into a 4P co-op.

At some point an interesting modder decided to step forth and have a crack at the AI to make it less laggy, and why not smarter. His name was Sorian. he made the most downloaded mod for FA and the renown gave him a job at gas powered games, and later on , Uber.

Galactic War was an idea perhaps as old as TA. FAF saw it finally be born and has provided many with a source of inspiration (not only PA). It is still in ongoing development, it's in alpha, it required many years, paid employees and an indigogo campaign by Zep.
I'm not even going to go into how badly the other mods turn every aspect (of the ranked!) FA into a whole new and growing game.

the network and software stability of the game has seen upgrades, the graphics, just about everything.

I think you simply ignore this, it's not your bad, but now you know.

It's different situation. Uber need Nordic for retail distribution and physical items manufacturing and delivery. It's impossible to get game into retail without publisher.

Still they're don't fund game, don't control development and likely won't get any royalties except from retail distribution.

Still doesnt change that they dont own the rights to supcom ... therefore it doesnt matter
This is while all good still inofficial work from inofficial/indipendant hobby developers/modders ... and this is fact ... consider it whatever you want .... but to me Supcom fa is a done game ... mods are just mods ... they are no official add ons no official expansions no official dlc ... but just mods ... nothing bad or anything but nothing realy more ... how many times do people look after mods instead of a original game
How much publicitiy would have day z got if it werent for it to become a standalone now
How many people on youtube or any gamesite talk as much about mods as they do extensivly talk about new games? The only reason i ever heard of faf f.e. was because of a couple Of small casting channels with a bare 1000 subcribers back in the day and only because i started to read through the forums after thq ceased support for gpgnet ... but there was no other information bout faf ... did any official information come from nordic games to support the game further ... nope they merely continued to sell and take their cut of it but thats it no patching no new content no nothing ...
How did i hear bout PA? Cynical brit, rps, gamestar, pcgames hardware, nerdcubed .... just to name a few ...

yeah it is a problem of public exposure or lack there off ...
How cool would it have been if there was more talk across the internet for say
Mechwarrior living legends ... because man that could have well been its own standalone game ...
But that is the problem this stuff merely gets introduced to very relativly few people and not to the broad audience ...
However it didnt have anything to do with crisis but only the engine as it was a totaly different game ... but again nothing official on the battletech franchise only a inofficial mod made by fans ...

And also dont forget aos - dota - lol - dota 2 what was just a mod before what became a full fleged game later that made revenue and still is supported and played by thausands ...

Most recent example of something that was a mod before and became its standalonegame later .... insurgency ...

There is a big difference on something being a mod or being its own ip
People dont have much interest in mods than in original ip ... why because mods dont get
much exposure to the public so you are better off makiing your own ip something official ...
Though obviously people need to start somewhere ....
Yeah it kind of s*cks ..

FAF is a program, and it's independent to FA (in the sense that you can run it without FA installed).
So no, FAF is not a mod at all.

Yes. It could be used to run PA or TA too.
I actually used it as a Asset Manager where I work.

    It's a platform, not a mod.

I don't really have anything to add to this discussion - but I have to question to wisdom of coming to a forum full of people who have pre-ordered a game and telling people that pre-ordering games is a bad idea and that they're wrong for having done so.

Should I re-explain the difference between backing, early-access and preorder again?

I'm not wading into the argument, I'm just wondering what reaction you were expecting, is all.
