I havent seen anyone not get lag once someone starts spamming air over the entire surface of a planet, or goes above 500 units an army You are not alone Zaphod. I think Meta should have someone speed up the optimization stuff, or at least mention it. They probably already know anyway lol
I'm going to stop recording at some point midpoint and see if I can get up to 15 fps or something, that might be it.
Zaphod, what are you trying to achieve when you fill the planet with patrolling air units? If you're trying to prevent astraeus drops, you could just keep an eye on the system-view, watching for incoming units. The insane lag makes it really hard to watch your videos when a 30-minute game stretches out to an hour forty-five.
Hey zaphod, i maybe have some solutions for your fps if you havent done it yet. 1. Obviously lower your settings, resolution -1 would be good or some other settings. 2. Boost PA.exe in the task manager. 3. Change settings in the nvidia control panel, for example: VSync - off Antialising - off Texture filtering - performance / high performance ( ! this can boost game really great, but your grafic card will be getting hotter (!) ) Threaded Optimazation - on. I hope these settings will help a bit.
If you patrol t2 bombers it is essentially impossible to land a teleporter. Even without all those units it would still be just as bad, at one point we destroyed almost all of our units and it made zero difference. Cheers, I'll have a play with things and see if that helps.
At this Point it will dont make sense to destroy all units, because if you delete all, their wreck will appear and this is not better than moving or generally having them.
I saw somewhere in a mod thread that a modder had discovered a serious memory leak in PA. So I suspect it just get worse and worse over time, probably multipled by the number of units but not restricted to it. Hopefully that means it can be optimized much much further.
possible lightbulb moment, perhaps. aggressively reclaim all the wreckages from a main planet at some point after winning it? even if you don't care about the metal, just to wipe the model from needing to be drawn. (yah yah, that's not necessarily how it works in code/memory, but might be worth a try on some friendly game sometime).
