Has there been any update on Alliance mode? That is my #1 most looked for feature in each build. My friends and I were never much for PvP, but we loved fighting together against the AI. Obviously we could share econ+units, but where's the fun in that?!? Anyways, search didn't bring anything up so I figured I'd ask. I'm assuming it's harder then adding a 'Don't attack this team' checkbox and a line of code to not shoot that team, but still it can't be worse than adding in warp gates!!
We saw them working on it in a dev stream, so my two answers are "soon" and "when it's done." Those are usually the only two possible answers for any questions on timing, though. They're working on it.
Thanks for the update! I don't usually watch the dev streams, so saying that it was on there was *exactly* the kind of information I was hoping for. Well, here's to hoping it's soon then!
Well, I asked this exact question in another thread and Neutrino said that they are working on it. This was a statement before the last big patch. Jon said that Alliances is still a few patches away... so... we still have to wait a bit till it happens.
It's being worked on and we've seen play tests of it. We'll see it "soon." If you ever ask a question that starts with or is along the lines of "when is feature x ready?" then the answer will always be "soon." Where's the fun in sharing econ and units? There's a LOT of fun in sharing econ and units! A group of 2-5 players can be much more effective when working together with shared economy and units rather than with separate economy and units. It requires a lot of work, but it's much better with Army.
Exactly. And that's why I would like to have Tournament for Teams. Thanks for pointing it out. Gotta use your post on an other thread
i think the best standard game mode would be Alliance mode with ressource sharing, and manual unit sharing... I hope this will be in XD
Whenever I see questions like these, I usually frustrated because I know they will say "soon" and the person asking this should know this as well. But I suspect this is generally just poor questioning from the community. Rather than someone asking "when?" and Uber saying "soon", I think the community should probably be asking "How's the progress/development/status of feature x coming along?" To which I would like to hear about the process of how such features are developed, what remaining steps need to be taken, or at least something along the lines of "I'd say it's about % done." Maybe it's just me, but I envision this community as being nerdy/geeky and would thoroughly enjoy hearing about the more technical aspects of development.
Even if we ask how's the progress, Uber will be incredibly vague and it'll also provide little reference to when it'll be available. Also, Uber cannot tell us "x% done" because they cannot properly gauge that. It is common for certain features to take longer than expected (like transports), for them to change the scope of the feature (like orbital), or for other features to take a priority so feature x takes a back seat (like the AI). We have heard a lot about the technical stuff in some of the early live streams.
Remember this iconic phrase, said from the back seat of cars across the developed world; The answer would usually be; not yet, soon, almost there, or shut-the-hell-up-or-we'll-turn-around. Literally the same thing is happening here. Personally, I can't wait for Uber to give a troll-response of; Finished weeks ago, but not going to ship it until later.
