The new patch makes me sad :(. I used to play this game every day, now it hardly makes sense to play at all. The lag becomes debilitating from mid game on. There is slow motion lag now, where what I see happening is actually seconds behind what is really happening in the game, and then later the game effectively just freezes. I'm left to playing only 1v1 on small planets now, and even then I get random instances where the game just freezes for ~15 seconds, and the lag still gets bad if the game makes it long enough. I'm sure the severity of the lag that I experience is partly due to the quality of my internet connection, but it should not be, and was not, this severe.

Yes, I realise this is beta, etc. I'm still stoked to play; have my fingers crossed for a hasty fix.

It's weird that so many reports of "it is too slow!" pop up currently.
Personally I've played a lot of 1v1 over the weekend and had no issues at all, even when I had 500+ fighters it was playable.

I can only speculate. I figure it is due to my internet connection. Telecommunications infrastructure is fairly poor in northern Canada when compared to Germany. Though, I can *usually* stream HD video and get speeds of 6ookb/s or sometimes more on downloads. Maybe its an issue of latency?

Hey greysuit, a couple of things, 1: can you do a test on your connection at http://www.speedtest.net/? as that would give us some information on your internet connection.

Also 2: Can you give us your system specifications, operating systems and graphics settings for PA as this could be a performance issue rather than your internet connection.

From northwest BC to Vancouver BC I get: ping 32ms, DL 4.6 Mb/s, UL 0.49 Mb/s.

My computer is an ASUS G74sx gaming laptop. I have the one with 3GB video RAM, running 64-bit windows 7. My brother is running PA on the same laptop but lives in a different region of the world and isn't having the same issues.

I have Ubuntu installed on dual boot and have been thinking about installing PA there to see if it makes any difference.

Ah I thought you had fps issues, 15s complete lock up sounds weird to be a network issue. But that might be it, I am in the middle of a 200k+ city, so my internet is much faster than yours.
Maybe monitor the bandwidth PA uses and check if it relates to the lags.

Ah, looking at that your machine isn't the problem. I've read in other threads that PA likes a minimum 6mb/s download speed so I think that is your issue. 0.5 mb/s upload is actually quite good as is your ping.

Looking at the spec on the Asus website your machine also has plenty of ram (PA is a bit of a memory hog so running too low on that can really slow it down).

You could try running PA under Ubuntu- but I'm unsure there'd be any benefit from running under Windows 7 (if anything usually the graphics drivers are older so it may be a little slower).

The only other thing to check- are you running PA from within Steam, or via the PA launcher (if you're using it in steam try downloading and running with the dedicated launcher as the Steam overlay is known to cause slow downs).

I find it very much has to do with the time you play. For me, any time after 8pm EST on a weekday is unplayable...

I have struggled with similar issues, just since the first two 2014 patches. Initially I found it unplayable from mid-game on. But then I remembered that the Australian servers were taken offline a while ago and I hadn't switched back (was using an EU server). As soon as I switched back to Aus server - problem solved. Note that pre 2014 patches, on the EU servers there was no slow down/lag.

I live in Oz, run on a MacBook Pro (2.6 Ghz i7 model with 16GB RAM), have a 5Mbit download and 1Mbit upload internet connection - so not great :( Although, I monitor my internet capacity and PA isn't maxing out.

So, it is either internet or server load or more likely, a combination.

I can only confirm if you play a larger game in the current state of the game, It will be allmost unplayable when you get to the late game, and thats a game breaker, for me anyway. And i Have a 60/12 mbit connection and
    Core I7 3,4 Ghz with 680 gtx.

You should play more larger games. 500+ fighters is just silly :D
I'm seeing more problems when there are about 3000+ units on each side.

3000+ units on each side always have made problems?

Yeah, but they should not. That's the whole point.
Because that's not even close to the anticipated "one million" units at the same time that Mavor once mentioned.

Teleporters made playing large games viable, but on the other hand the lag is making it impossible.

Yes, yes this game is still in development and performance tweaking is a time consuming task. I know that.
But we're at like 0.5% of what this game wants to be performance wise.

So it's undeniable that there's an issue. I'm not sure if one million units will even be possible at all some day in the future.

I'd be gobsmacked if they ever get 50,000 units run smoothly. I will eat my hat if that happens.

I think they could pull off many more units, without lag then we have now. I figure the server doesn't need to update the client if the client cant see the units, thus the only limit will be server power. I hope this is correct. I just want to play large late game battles without lag :|

For me since the last patch PA has been getting way better performance mid/late game in my own custom 3 planet 6 player games.

I purchased the game through steam, do you know where can I find the dedicated launcher?

PA has only been getting better performance-wise, and my rig isn't even that good.
