    Hey,

I thought I would speak to the experts :)

I played a match (for testing purposes) so a friend I am trying to get hooked on PA, and while the server frame rate was a stable 30fps, the client was barely hitting 10fps, with a low of 3-4. This as you can imagine resulted in massive lag, taking a few minutes at a time to select units and give them a command.

I have attached the SS they took from twitch.

    Any help/advise would be fantastic!

My suggestion is to wait for Uber to sprinkle the magic optimization dust on the code... this apparently happens towards the end of the games development.

Lots of optimizations are on the way, but until then make sure to run with graphics settings as low as possible (especially shadows). There is currently a problem with high resolutions (greater than 1080p) and if you are using a hi-res monitor, try running in windowed mode (the problem has been fixed locally, and should make it into the next patch). Twitch probably won't help your fps either.

The latest balance changes made it easier to get tons of units out. While this is fun... it also stresses our systems a lot. Try playing with fewer players in the game and play on smaller planets.

Thanks! I will give that a go, I have most set to medium (as advised by the sticky above).

Looking forward to the next update :)

Thank you SXX Also - I do not use steam, so currently use the main launcher.

    Thanks both,

    Steve

Then there probably nothing else you can do.

One thing I forgot about. You have fairly old CPU, so when you start playing make sure there is no other CPU-intensive software running. If you leave something like browser with some flash game running in background it's might eat lot of CPU and this is serious problem for PA.

Also make sure you have all latest Windows updates installed because some of them affect CPU usage quite a lot.

PS: At moment I'm running on very old CPU as well and I see that when FPS drops occur graphics pipes actually unused so I guess most serious lag spikes might be caused by CPU bottlenecks.

As far as the client server sim stats and not the graphics fps but server fps, the server is supposed to be faster that the client. 30 fps vs 10fps means server is ticking 3 times as fast as clients on the sim, because server has to keep track of data for more than 1 client, games with 10 players, server load is a lot eg 10 times the clients. I never see the fps change much from max 10fps on client and 30fps on server I'm guessing those rates are capped. I imagine major network packet optimization has do be done to mimize packets sent for 1000 of units but I don't think client supposed to go above 10fps.

I think you talking about server and simulation FPS and none of them run on client.

    Thanks again guys.

I changed to windowed mode, and shut anything down that was not required for playing the game, and saw a massive improvement.

Very much looking forward to the next set of improvements.
