What does this do? I figure it just makes your unit scout around? but how do you make it do that? I've selected roam, then ordered them to move and they just move normally.
I don't know and it seems that no one knows. Could be something that hasn't been implemented yet. Dunno.
I am trying to figure this out as well. I never played TA, but it appears that it had the Roaming stance as well. Can anyone who played TA explain what Roaming did in that game?
TA roaming == your units will move around to engage enemies, but are still on a leash. It's a soft version of "hold position".
That makes sense. Thanks. Although it seems that this stance may become obsolete now that we have Area Patrol as a command.
Generally unit behaviours are chase enemy, hold area and hold position. Chase enemy means that units can be drawn away from where you left them by enemies, and will chase them indefinitely. Hold area is roughly equivalent to roam. And hold position is the same. The stance is important because it means your units are still localised and will return to the point that they are guarding. Presumably you get them to roam around a key area. You still want to maintain blob, or in the case of fighters and bombers you still want the fighters to stick relatively close to the bombers A lot of games do do both. It may be pointed out that all of those seem to be broken. Hold fire won't hold fire, or it will continue holding fire even after you've ordered it to fire. I really want to see an ability to record orders and then repeat them.
Here's the break down from TA I imagine it hasn't changed. Maneuver: units in patrol or stationary will pursue enemy units that enter their range for a short distance then return to post. Roam: units see above, will pursue indefinitely enemy that enter s their range Hold position: well pretty obvious, no matter what comes their way they ain't moving. Hope that helps.
Ah, now this makes the most sense. If this is how it will be implemented in PA as well, then I am looking forward to seeing these stances become functional. Thanks beer4blood
