My god teleporters dont fix anything late game, i try to plop one down and they nuke anything coming through, (when each team controls both planets) and it just becomes a numbers game, again ! For the love of god make some way to defend against an oncoming nuke to a tele, maybe a antinuke that can pass through the portal at the very least, i cant do anything when games get to these points.

The problem in my opinion is that Teleporters shouldn't really be used like that at all. When you're trying to create beachheads if should be mobile units shot out form unit cannons that really deal with that.

This is just a side effect of using the wrong tool for the job in my eyes.

Question is, when your opponent has secured a planet AND its surrounding moons in this fashion, how then do you deal with it?

You lose. If you've let someone get into that kind of position, you shouldn't be able to come back.

I still think that we should be able to build a portal in orbit, and then smash it down on the planets surface. Imagine sending 5 or 6 along with units from a unit cannon in a massive invasion.

You mean build drop pods in orbit that deploy buildings or even a building cannon?

Unit cannons don't exist yet. Drop pod transports would be amazing but I don't think those are on the table.

Teleports are NOT invasion tools. They are logistic tools. You can NOT build a forward base without already having a strong forward presence. Only an invasion tool can give that.

Asteroids are one of the best invasion tools, but they are limited. If you can't secure one than alternate means are NEEDED to keep the game moving.
If there were proper invasion tools the game wouldn't have stalled this long to begin with.

Early(ish) game teleporters work fine as invasion tools. Late game is when they fail, at which point asteroids work fine. Once we can move asteroids between orbits it will be even better, between nukes and future unit cannon, invasions will be fine.

In the meantime, just smash them with an asteroid, follow it up with a bunch of orbital fabbers building teleporters, dump units and fabbers through to take the planet.

The multiple teleporters is to prevent interplanetary nukes from breaking all your landing zones (a teleporter is MUCH cheaper than a nuke after all)

This can fail in 2 ways, your opponent is better than you, or controls more resources than you. Both of these cases SHOULD result in failure.

Except you don't lose, because you're in the same position he is. Stalemate.

The problem, though, isn't nukes vs teleporters. I wonder if the OP is the person I played last night. He dropped a teleporter, I nuked it, he dropped another one about 10 minutes later, I nuked it, he dropped another shortly thereafter, I nuked it.

I actually only had 2 nuke launchers. If he had just kept dropping teleporters, like queuing them up all over the place, I would have run out of nukes. Meanwhile my expedition to invade his planet was in space for 5+ minutes because travel times can still be so huge. I don't think our game was a stalemate; he just gave up too easily.

But I do worry about smaller planets still. Especially a small asteroid, free floating. First person there is pretty much going to have it because it should only take a few minutes to give it total defensive coverage.

Maybe 3-engine asteroids should just be like big nukes instead of planet-killers. They are way too easy to claim and defend for being the ultimate superweapon. Or maybe 3-engine asteroids should be illegal to construct in the system builder unless you put them around a size 900+ planet.

I like the idea of a Drop pod style but I think a Cannon that Blasts them to the target location would be really wicked to see. I have however used the teleporter with a lot of success. I set up a planet and once I had amassed a large number of units for the invasion I simply used Orbital fab units to Plant a few teleporters in different locations. Once one is up simply send some units through. I really had no issue as atleast 1 or 2 would be built before the enemy would be able to respond to all of the construction. I wont say that this is not a problem but I don't see it as being very difficult to overcome. Ill be happy with any path that we take from here so ill just say this: I really like the idea of changing invasion strategy to the Cannon/Drop Pods! I think that would really be neat to see and help offer us some ability to punch a hole in the planetary beachhead along side the Orbital cannons.

The unit cannon was shown in the kickstarter video and it looks like a great idea. Asteroids are also great ideas for moving forces and bases between planets. Strap an army to an asteroid, fly it to the target, launch them to planet. That's a good way to invade.

If you don't have an asteroid, it all kind of falls apart. Nothing else can do the job at the moment. The telegate is a nice start, but they can never be true invasion tools. It's simply not inherent to their design.

Ahem, may i say this is the exact game i am referencing, and that this sexy man here has just proven my point. But the problem was there was tons of fighters around, i couldnt drop anything very easily without running into em, and i didnt want to send more orbital fabs.

If you have allowed your opponent to gain complete control of the planet and the surrounding moons. You are dead. The only time you would not be dead is if the player with the advantage has decided to toy with you.

What if you could build a tractor beam on say metal planets and use that to drag the enemy planets towards your planet or in orbit around your planet? Let us say that you choose to drag the enemy in towards your planet, well then both planets annihilate. If you instead choose to put the enemy in orbit around your planet there's two ways of dealing with your opponent. The first option would be to nuke the enemy with orbital nukes, the second option would be to fire units with help of the unit cannon towards him. I want to add on last thing as well, what if you could use the tractor beam to pull another planet in to the sun?!? That would look nice.

That statement is silly; I was in a game the other day with two planets, each with two moons (so six planetary bodies in total). Each team took a planet and its moons. Eventually we lost due to lag and stupidity (we had all our commanders on the same planet and got asteroid'ed), but as both teams had secured a planet and surrounding moons, without both winning, clearly it is not as simple as that.

well what you would want to do is send massive orbital fighters to gain the orbital field, then fabbers to build some lasers, then laser the nuke launchers, and clear a spot for the teleport, then army through.

or just get all the radar, if you can deny intel you can get armies places that are defended, because they have to know to nuke the army

That's how it *should* work however there is one fatal flaw in your plan...

AIR. As it currently stands there is no unit that can tackle air units from the orbital layer. You can laser everything they have on the ground- but the fighters, bombers and gunships will still be flying around and will demolish anything you attempt to put down.

Brian made a good suggestion which would solve this problem:

That plan falls if they have umbrellas, you wont have time to spend 25000 metal to build a laser, your orbital fighters will get absolutely crushed and trying to scout using the advanced radar takes a huge amount of radars to cover even a small portion of the planet. Even when you do manage to make some sort of beachhead and get a teleporter or 4 down you can't stop both nukes and t2 bombers.

The problem is we actually need intel to assault a planet and we need all the other stuff like interplanetary nukes, transporters and the unit cannon.
