I'm just wondering what others (Including Uber!) think of this idea.

A $1k+ backer gets to design their own custom commy, with five keys to use or give away etc.

What if 2 separate $1k+ backers were to exchange a key each?

That way each of them would have access to 2 custom commys?

    Just a thought...

Nope, all bonuses are tied to your UberNet account and none to game key. You can convert all your keys to Steam and gift them, you'll still able to use your bonuses if you play game with this Uber account.

If i recall correctly, the owners of a custom Custom Commander will receive some kind of specific "activation code" to share them with friend.
    Not a game key.

From the Kickstarter, updates #1 :

then why did you post the topic, you know the answer to your question/suggestion.
Its possible to have 2 custom commanders if you and a friend of yours backed 1000+ and you share a key with each other :D

I posted the topic because, as I said, I was wondering what Uber and others thought of the idea, and nobody else has mentioned this (That I'm aware of..) previously.

Judging from SXX's reply, not all backers have reached the same conclusion (No offence intended).

I was also commenting on the possibility that all the $1k+ backers would necessarily be a "friend" of each others. Indeed, apart from one or two forum contributors, most $1k+ backers appear reluctant to advertise the fact, which I think is very understandable. Maybe there's a case for a $1k+ backers-only sub-forum

Pfft, If people cant get their hands on one of the custom 1k backer commanders, people can just make their own. LOL.

If a 1k backers wants to trade a commander key with someone else, then there are two obstacles: finding the other 1k backers, and trusting them enough to swap a commander key.

Currently there is nothing that prevents one of the backers from running away with a key, but without "paying". And given the value of a commander key... well let me put it this way: right now I'm not going to swap a key with anyone unless I know the address and phone number of that person ;-)

I would appreciate a secure way to swap keys, but let's be realistic: Uber is not going to implement a shop for only 100 people ;-) I guess the far more easier way will be to just ask Brad to swap the commander keys.

I think it would be better (at least from a user's perspective) if a 1k backer could manage a list of accounts that can use that backer's Custom Commander, and add or remove those accounts according to whim.

Though, I reckon that such lists have a considerable back-end cost, otherwise you wouldn't see things like a limit of how many Friends you can have on Facebook.

Oh come on. There isn't a limit to the number of accounts each person could have.

The limit used to be 5,000 friends. It was probably increased in recent years, but I'd imagine it's still a hard number.

    Oh nah, it's still 5000.

    Surprised anyone could hit that.

There's no 1k backer forum for your information.

For my case, I think I will not give away my keys, because if I give them away, the commander isn't unique anymore.

Well the point of the extra keys if if you wanted to form a team of the custom commanders with friends / clan mates.

As they only give away 5 keys there can never be more than 5 of the custom commanders in existence (which compared to the number of players means they will be a very rare sight indeed)- and to come up against all 5 on the battle field in say a GW clan battle would be a combination of awesome and terrifying for the opposing team.
