Also, you should watch more than 1 minute of a video before criticizing it for bias. Otherwise, you won't be able to mock it for ignoring the entire African and Russian campaigns. Besides, there's barely anything useful in the 5 minutes of globe footage they spread thinly over an hour. It's a horrible UI, constant beeping notwithstanding.

Im about 46 mins in, it all about the American involvement in the war.

And we won the Falklands war, so surly that should have increased patriotism? So no you didn't fix that, we have been cynical since WW1 and have only gotten worse.

But we lost every thing after WW2.....What was there to be happy about??? In the end even Germany came of better than we did.

I am happy we are much more cynical about our government, and that we aren't likely to let our patriotism blind us to war again.

I feel that a program advertising itself as a documentary should be impartial, regardless of where it is made/published and whether it focuses on a single country or not.

This program was presenting patriotic opinions as truth - 'the rise of the greatest superpower on earth had begun' (paraphrased, can't be bothered to rewatch)

Good thing that's true! On paper the US is the greatest, richest, most powerful, and most generous country in the history of our civilization.

And you feel it should be impartial!? Who are you kidding? No way that's happening. Even the most fair documentaries have bias. You have to see through that and compare it to what u already know.

On that note, it's the history channel. Why would you watch the history channel? They are so weird now I don't know if they deserve to be called a history channel anymore lol.

No: watch any british (just using what I know) documentary, there is nowhere near that level of bias, if any.

Anyway, this isn't relevant so let's close this thread before a mod has to.

I think that patriotism is not a virtue. It borders on nationalism, and we all know where that can lead to.
How can you be proud of a nation? You can feel part of it, happy about that you're living with/in it, but proud of it?
It's not like you helped shaping that nation, so feeling proud of it seems like acknowledging yourself for something that you didn't have a part in. Just by being born in a nation, doesn't give you a reason to be proud of it imo.

But doesn't this belong in the unrelated discussion? Just asking.

Just today I talked with some colleges about a german news channel called "N24". It shows a lot of world war 2 centric pseudo scientific documentaries (more or less endlessly looping them) so we thought it should be called "Hitler24". That documentary looks like it could be some sort of american N24^2. xD
