I just had a game against he AI on a size 2 moon, and after the AI lost a considerable amount of it's base it just walked with it's commander into the back of my base positioned it in the middle of area-command-built pgens and detonated itself. If this had been a team game loosing most of my power would have been devastating, but in this case the AI basically just called gg. I'd really like to know though if this is a bug or a feature. Is the AI able to Com Bomb, or in this case, suicide. Or is it some weird bug?
Sorian had posted a few weeks back that he was working on something along the lines of "last ditch" commands for ai that was in a state of loss. I have noticed that if the AI experiences a large amount of casualties while the player has minimal losses, it will take a nice long stroll over to your base and begin laying down its last rites. I dont beleive it will try to self destruct though, it will just let your own defenses do the dirty work.
What the... You didn't mention this, and waited watching the forums for someone to notice it? Is your f5 key ok Sorian? you had to be clicking refresh a lot these last few days... +1 on that feature though, I bet in free-for-all against a mix of AI and players, that will end up being the bane of many a player.
I thought you mentioned it more then you did as well, tracked it down to a few tweets: https://twitter.com/merobbins/status/400416493847851008 but yes, Sorian has done some amazing things with the AI, can't wait till your back working on it...
ERr... it was identified by me about half a dozen times in different threads related to the AI? It could be very powerful when the AI understands commander snipes.
I didn't see it, but that is a major point in the ai for sure. It is hard to struggle directly of outproduce. Most my kills are on a healthy ai who had a vulnerable commander position i was able to hit with sometimes pelters.
I like the idea of an AI that will occasionally suicide, but I think this needs to be tweaked. I've been playing 1v2 AI matches all day to try and improve my micro and in all three matches BOTH AI suicided into my base. In two cases they still had viable bases. In one I was fighting both and they spontaneously decided to do it together. I noticed on that match that yellow never built a base. I was starting to get a leg up on blue and suddenly both of them walked into my base from the east and west. Not a very satisfying win!
There should be an AI type that just does this: Build 3 metal extractors Build, I dunno, 4 energy or so Build a bot factory Bot factory set to produce an endless stream of fabrication bots set to assist the commander when built Charge the player's base It would probably be reasonably successful. And good practice since that's approximately what happens with some players, especially on small maps.
I'm not sure if it's been fixed yet, I'm not up to date, but the AI will readily nuke itself if it feels that the army blowing up it's base is too large.
This is a cool feature. However, I have observed the AI commander moving under ground through my base, coming up on the back side and exploding. Making the com bomb unstoppable.
Love that glitch. The AI's threat response is SOOOOOOO bad. It only seems to attack one target at a time. It will happily move its 300 unit army towards your base, reach the outskirts, and then turn them all for home because a much smaller force of yours is marching through their base unopposed. Defensive nukes "danger close" make sense if you've spread out enough to absorb nuclear impacts. However it's been a long time since I've seen the AI takeover an entire hemisphere. True. Basically what happens most of the time is that I'm not outproducing it, we're in a stalemate and neither is making decisive moves towards the other, but the stalemate situation is slightly in favor of me. Easiest way to trigger it was just to attack with bombers. Probably is still the case. The AI can't get land units anywhere close to your base because you intercept them, so eventually it suicides. Even though I know it's a feature, I still see it as a bug. . . The AI will turn a stalemate, potential winning situation into a loss.
It is a feature, make no mistake. It should be programmed to do it, in case of multi-team games including an AI, to do as much damage as possible in the end. However, it should also refrain from doing it unless the most dire undeniable conditions occur for it. It doing it makes it fairly brilliant in a team game, deciding it's outcome depending on who it claimed retribution on. It is a smart technique, as long as the AI doesn't glitch into throwing away it's life under otherwise healthy circumstances, even if it is struggling uphill it can struggle better before com-bombing with it's army than suicide without fully using it's army. It should also try to com-bomb with fab-healers and with the entire remainder of it's army. That would be brilliant. Especially if the fabbers and him repaired his army as long as possible while still fighting. That way, it does as much damage as possible with it's remaining resources. Because even a battered up army is a shame to waste.
The AI commander Self destruct is very sneaky, but I like it, granted I sometimes hate it when other players do it to me but If I am told to expect rude behavior like that it will help make me a better strategist. Good job on adding that process of thinking to the AI.
Hi, cool feature, but needs a bit of fixing at this point of beta. In my last game (the usual two planets in separate orbits) I was controlling the second planet but AI was stronger than me on the starting planet and the only thing that kept it from walking over me were the occasional raids I was able to launch at it while its hordes were coming at me on the other side of the planet, so it kept moving them back and forth and never quite finished the job. After 80 minutes the AI commander took its walk to middle of nowhere and just detonated there, taking absolutely nothing with it. It wasn't even near any Holkins range. It was like an old elephant finding a peaceful place to die alone. -S-
I really think it's a bug. What is the point of playing the AI if it just gives up, commits suicide and starts playing 2000 simultaneous games of tetris.
