Only if they have the option to mute all voice chat with it. Hate listening to other guys who always use voice activation and I have to listen to everything they do. Or guys that rage and roar at their teammates because you might be building something they don't like / your team starts losing etc. This could go on for awhile. I'd prefer they don't add it at all.

It's unknown really, for all the work it could require(for which I'm not sure if anyone at Uber is experienced with VOIP) it would likely still be worse than 3rd party programs like TS3. IT would definitely not be as flexible as well unless it was also tied into a 'party/group' system as well, but again, is it really worth the effort when we already have well established 3rd party programs that do the exact same thing really?

In every game that I've played that had team chat built in, I've had a terrible experience with it. Best to stick with 3rd party and maybe get everybody's user names in pregame chat or something and let they add better features to the game. That's my opinion anyways.

Voice chat exists for collaboration during team games. If you aren't going to go through the effort to set on up yourself, you probably don't need it.

Will the final game be available on Steam? If so, perhaps there is a way to tell Steam who your teammates are so if they are also Steam users you can easily start a voice conference?

    It already is.

And I would say, just use TS3 or Ventrillo, or similar.

Just integrate TS3 into it and be done with it.

my vote is for them to get a large ts3 server or whatev, and get together a game feature linking it. It catches on better if it is an in game link, players will actually get it.

This is great, and if it would cost Uber too much then they can just let players run their own servers and make a way to easily paste a link to it into ALL or TEAM chat, and when someone clicks it it launches TS.

Neutrino is heavily against it in previous statements and threads on this. Unlikely to make it.

Why he is against this? The work or generally the principle?

Like other people have mentioned it was along the lines of why voice chat in CoD is horrible. Personally I think this RTS scene is very different to other game's VoIP experiences.

Hmm yes, global lobby VoIP or lobby VoIP would be horrible, but I think it would be a good experience for team based games and an option to turn off the VoIP.

Splendid, Smnc has a mumble that could be used

I would like this. Not everyone has a clan to play with in team games.

There are pros and cons. I like what was mentioned about being able to post a link to a TS server into chat. I would hate having to listen to everyone eating their potato chips or what have you while in lobbies though.

Exactly. Of course it's not perfect, some people will be immature (though I doubt many in this community) and sometimes teammates will not even speak the same language, but when neither of those things are a problem it would be really nice to be able to voice chat with your teammates.
