I took a long break from the game when it was still in alpha and returned recently now its in beta. I found that when trying to join multiplayer lobbies I'm stuck on "Login accepted" for a very long time. Once or twice I made it in by leaving it for like 10 minutes or so. But then either could click forever on player slots and nothing would happen, or the ready buttong doing nothing. Last night I thought i solved the issue by reinstalling the game onto my SSD I usually reserve for my OS, it loaded lobbys in seconds and huzzar! played all night without hitches, and I thought, problem solved. But upon trying to play today we're back to the glacial waits to get into multiplayer lobbies once again. (ones i make myself are fine against AIs) Added a dxdiag cause well.. just incase! Cheers. Sorry if this issue has been done. everyone seems to just be having problems on start up or once they're in game. P.S Managed to get into a lobby and after hammering "ready" for about a minute it finally switched me to ready. Can't type in the lobby chat, or switch colours. We have other people who appear to be stuck on "waiting" too. Anyone else having these issues?
Still a problem. Still no solution. I can host generally. Thats entirely fine. Sometimes very quick. Can't join other peoples lobbies, Or it takes decades and then I can't select a spot, click ready or talk in the chat. Always fun getting told I'm afk and should be kicked when I can't do anything. Clearly not a machine fault as it plays smooth as anything when its actually going. Worked fine in alpha as much as to be expected. Still baffled.
Does it depend on system size? I have trouble joining too sometimes. That is, clicking ready doesn't do anything and I can't change colours. This is worse when the system is big. Eventually, when the system loading indicator turns green, everything works fine though.
Are you using Wifi or an Ethernet cable to connect to your modem? If your using WiFi to play online then i recommend playing using an ethernet cable. I have similar issues when i use my WiFi connection to play. Changing over to ethernet instantly fixed my lobby connection issues and occasionally laggy gameplay.
That can be a factor when its working properly. But the vast majority of the time it just sets on a screen with "LOGIN ACCEPTED" with no way to get out past ending the process. My desktop is on a homeplug/ethernet laptop on wifi, but get the same results. I would say its my net and I'm doomed but it was ok in alpha.
Yeah, it might very well be your connection. PA is quite a bandwidth hog. I do remember they changed the network code quite a bit since alpha, but I was under the impression that was to reduce network load. Since you have a laptop, you might want to try to connect to a different network if you can. I.e. work/university/school or whatever. Then at least you know what the problem is. You can also try speedtest.net to see if your connection is up to snuff. Also, do you wait for the indicator in the lobby to turn green before you press ready? When I press ready too soon, I sometimes end up with a black screen and no planet. I don't get stuck at the "LOGIN ACCEPTED" screen though. (Well, sometimes I do when trying to join an Aussie server. )
