Hi and welcome to the forum :) please do a search before you post a thread, this is asked several times before and discussed for years... you could talk about your opinion there and compare it with other.

I'm not normally one to chirp up in threads and say this but please, please do a search on this one. It's such a broad question and has been asked and answered in so many different ways that another thread on the topic is completely redundant.

"What units do you want to see" is here - https://forums.uberent.com/threads/its-time-to-talk-unit-ideas.52165/

For the rest... just give the search function a whirl.

Well, I did a search and found nothing for what I wanted to suggest; A campaign.

I understand that the game will be basically community driven, but ladies and gentlemen, there will be a time where this game's community will be minuscule or non-existent. But like a good book, a story is forever. When I saw this game's trailer all those months ago, I said aloud that I needed this game. Not wanted, but needed... But I held off because that 90 dollar price tag was a little steep for my coin purse. I do have it now and I am totally digging the game itself. Just as I expected; Awesome.

But only recently have I found out that the game will not feature a campaign, which is pretty unfortunate. A campaign doesn't need to have fancy shmancy Blizzard pre-rendered cutscenes. Just some zoomed in shots of units, a couple of portraits, maybe some voice acting. But, mainly, an RTS campaign is designed as a steady tutorial throughout the story to teach someone how to play the game without overwhelming the player. And lemme tell you guys, that intro video, although it's nice, it's not much of "ease of insertion" of player into the game.

I played a couple of games against the AI, and I've been too overwhelmed to keep playing. I don't have a good grip on the units or the gameplay itself. And I am NOT going to be playing multiplayer for a long, long time. I'm just not very good at RTS'. And having a skill based game be premised on multiplayer is very daunting and disconcerting to players who want to play the game, but literally can't because they get owned 45 seconds into a match. I know practice makes perfect, but it's meticulous and annoying when you're trying to do it with either an AI over and over again, or a player who's been playing this since it was announced.

Having a campaign is a good bed for learning the game at its core, and spending quality time with specific units and learning their mechanics, and telling them bedtime stories, all while encompassed by a compelling story that gives context to the player's actions as a commander of a self-replicating robot army. Otherwise, I don't think I'd be playing this game too much, regardless of how much I love everything about it.

(Also I wish there was a little indicator of what units you have set to what hotkeys, like in StarCraft, because I have trouble remembering)

I could write up something pretty neat... Probably, but who am I but a lonely PC gamer. I don't have credentials besides the two short books I'm writing. *CAUGH* HAUWHGHJh

I hope the devs see this post and hope it strikes an idea in their clever heads.

DO NOT GET ME WRONG, I saw the Galactic War thing, that is gonna be NEAT as balls. But a short scripted campaign could be a nice tutorial besides the video,

Internally, we've discussed doing a ... guided (?) tutorial similar to the campaign component that you're talking about. We'll have to see on that.

On a much more helpful note: our community has made a bunch of really helpful tutorials for new players. Have you see this, for example? http://pamatches.com/tutorials/

To be fair, it was stated in the Kickstarter campaign, and I'm pretty sure in most other places, that there would not be a traditional campaign...and I'm pretty happy with what we are getting. That said, if Uber are thinking of adding a campaign-lite that would be great, AS LONG AS it doesn't detract from the rest of the overall product

Story doesnt realy matter as long as the gameplay is chalanging ...
ta story aswell as supcom story is rather paperthin and forgetable still those games are played because of how they function ta is almost 20 yaers old and is still played supcom also has still its playerbase after 7 Years ....
does dota 2 or team fortress 2 have a story or campaign? Not to my knowledge and yet they are ammongst the most popular games released in the recent years with lol .... why? Because of accesible gameplay and support from both comunity and devs/publishers ... what needs to be done in order for pa to have longevity? help newbies understand how the game works and plays and organize tournaments that are engaging ... a game is only so difficult as it is hard to understand .... if the game is explained well it is easier to grasp and thus easier to be played ....
a tutorial series is the best way to go imo ... a singleplayercampaign is more often no different but resourceheavy to create

There will probably be community created mod campaigns.

Though i do agree that a dedicated in game tutorial "campaign" would be good thing. 4 missions or something (UI, economy, basic combat and defenses (land/air/naval) advanced combat (orbital))

Simple step by step system, text pop-ups and voice over by brad would do wonders for first time immersion.

I can't agree with that at all. But that's the whole point of why we have so many different games. There are people who enjoy (pretty much) multiplayer only games like Team Fortress (I actually really enjoy Natural Selection 2, now that it's been mentioned), or even skip singleplayer aspects of games and go straight for the multiplayer, like a lot of people do with Call of Duty or Battlefield. And there are people like myself or Yahtzee (who reviews games only on their singleplayer aspect) that would much rather have an engaging and interesting story than any form of multiplayer.

I'm more of a coop multiplayer gamer myself, I don't dig competitive multiplayer that much. But again, it's all about the taste. :p Hell, StarCraft is a fantastic example. They don't NEED to have a campaign anymore, they can make money off the gargantuan international tournaments that StarCraft is a basis of. 10,000 games per day? I'm sure they're doing just fine. XD But again, there's people like myself that replay the single player as much as people re-read their favorite books. You see what I mean?

PA is a game that can only benefit from sort of campaign (in my opinion, of course). The entire scope of what I've seen, even the original trailer has a TINY bit of context already for why we're all playing as robots. And it seems to be generally accepted, so far, that even a short tutorial type campaign would do wonders for novices getting into the game. And depending on the story, it could do wonders for the experience. Just because it's short, doesn't mean it has to be sub par. I think they can do something absolutely fantastic with even a short 10 mission campaign, hell even a 5-8 mission campaign is better than no mission. XD (10 missions is a third of Starcraft 1 and Broodwar, just for sense of scale here)

Yeah, that sounds great. :D And like I said above, even with 4 missions there can be something interesting there. It doesn't have to be a Bran Flakes cereal campaign.

Are we forgetting something? Galactic war!

There won't be one campaign, there will be infinite campaigns!! ( with no crappy voice acting or linear plots )

I mentioned that at the end of post #6. I think it will be awesome as well, but I can't agree with the "crappy voice acting or linear plots" thing you said. A book is a linear plot. Hell, a linear plot is just a story, and stories are cool. If they're good. lol. I still stand by a short campaign as a tutorial of sorts, but the galactic war jam is gonna be the bee's knees, I'm certain. And I've heard some pretty handsome voices in the staff of Uber. ;D I'm a voice actor myself actually. :I (Hate to go back to it, but Starcraft has some rad voice acting and linear plots. XD)
