I'm not a fan of pole lock, for this and other reasons.

Pole lock has issues, and always will have issues due to the defining factor of pole lock. Pole lock makes gameplay particularly tricky around the north and south poles.

I'd highly encourage you to play without pole lock. It takes getting used to, but improves your gameplay when you get used to it. None of the top PA players use pole lock.

    Not really an option.

The new camera has broken some functionality - has anybody actually got free flying camera working?

Yes, you aren't a fan of pole lock. Some people are. The issue around the poles is only because you need the cursor in the corner of the screen to rotate around the pole, as opposed to having it slightly left of center/slightly right of center.

Mac and Linux have issues. I highly encourage you to play without Mac/Linux. It takes getting used to, but it improves your gameplay.

Cruel comparison? Perhaps. But that's the point. This is only the first pass on that new camera, it still does need some tweaking to get it to work perfectly. Pole lock is just an optional way to play

    Playing without Mac/Linux isn't a cruel comparison. It's a completely irrelevant one.

Playing on Mac/Linux is no different than PC, aside from maybe a few bugs. There's no gameplay changes.

Pole lock does change how you interact with the game. The Operating System doesn't change how you interact with the game.

So I have no clue what your point is since it's comparing apples to oranges. Completely pointless as they're nothing alike.

Uh. Yes. I never play without pole lock except occasionally when commentating. It works. It's always worked. Why don't you think it works?

Using pole lock makes gameplay difficult when playing around the poles because of the way the camera rotates around the poles. If you want to scroll to something on the other side of the pole, or are playing constantly on the pole, then pole lock makes it difficult.

There are no limitations to having the poles un-locked. The only thing that takes getting used to is keeping track of your bearings. After playing without pole lock for a little bit, you get good at keeping track of your bearings and it overall improves gameplay.
