Right now I can't see any strategic icons, no build queues, no command path indicators, no radar blips, no metal spot green circles, and not even the selection box that goes around the selected unit.

Restarting PA usually fixes the strategic icons issue, but didn't fix it at all this time. Nothing is viewable.

I verified that the settings were on for metal spots, and even switched the build queue visibility to always on.

    Nothing seems to work.

    Anyone else having these issues?

Yeah. I'll get a new computer with all that spare cash I have lying around.

My computer is an absolute beast! In 2009... Even so, it's still a pretty decent computer by today's stats. It's still better than the low/mid range computers.

I'm saving up for a new one, but probably won't be able to get it until Feb/March. :-/

The game runs fairly smoothly – just doesn't display the icons for some reason.

it sounds like you have cinematic mode turned on, but it seems like a rendering issue.

idk. The updates were meant to ease the graphical and CPU burden on the computer, not sure how its bugged to not render anythuing

This sounds a lot like the troubles I get when running PA with optirun under Linux. Do you have weirdness when maximizing the window as well?

As long as I know it's different issue on Mac. On Linux this only happen with open source drivers because CoherentUI_Host keep running on Intel graphics even if you using optirun for PA.

If I remember correct somebody of Mac players (might be even brian, don't remember) already tried Linux fix and it's won't work, but guess it's worth to try it again.

The behaviour seems to have changed though. When I start PA using optirun it actually works now. When I am in the lobby and waiting for the light to turn green, the NVidia card is using ~200 MB of memory. When I start the game and the engine kicks in, the memory usage goes up to ~450 MB (2 size 2 planets), which seems to indicate that the NVidia card is actually being used by the engine as well. When I do the same without optirun the memory usage of the NVidia card remains around ~10 MB.
Anyway, I was wondering if it was related, since I think most Mac's have NVidia cards as well?

I suppose there is just something wrong with memory usage statistics.
Other thing you need to know that while you're in lobby only planet geometry and textures is in memory, but when you click "ready" game getting information about each feature on planet from server (each small stone, tree, etc). So it's also possible that features use extra VRAM.

For example random 1200 meters earth planet have about 100,000-130,000 features and obviously they all consume VRAM. For me after start memory usage goes up too.

Also one more thing that consume ram it's frame buffer and everything what used for actual rendering, you can try to open GPU memory usage using Ctrl+P and try to resize window. You'll notice that memory usage goes up/down depends on window size. But please notice I'm not 3D programmer so I can easily mess up with terminology.

If I remember correctly OP have Mac with AMD HD4XXX.

If it is cinematic mode, then that means cinematic mode was turned on with the update and stays turned on inbetween matches.

    I'll look into it.

Interesting. The update somehow turned on cinematic mode. Really weird...

Kinda feel like an idiot. I somehow managed to check every setting except that one.

About week ago I'm tried to find where "route lines" disappear. When I finally find it I was like:

WTF?!? Who the ♥♥♥♥ call this option "SHOW FOCUS"!? o_Oo_Oo_O

Heh. There's some interesting, but good stuff in the settings.

I switch the always show build queue to on and love it.
