It isn't, you should really document yourself.

The main reason one would have this whole thread is to convince the devs to add this possiblity in.

Allowing tilted orbits in a system would make it harder to read for no gameplay benefits.

    Allowing?

What about USING ok? I feel that would be a better term. Allowing is just fine for making the engine more powerful.

It is. They talked about it in one of the streams during alpha. There is support for full-3D systems and N-body physics and god knows what else.

EDIT: Hm... I rewatched that stream and haven't found this moment... Weird, I was almost sure about it...
We probably should ask about it, rather than stating our assumptions as facts.

Wouldn't beta be perfect time to test these things instead of assuming things?

Near term? Absolutely will not happen. Even though the new camera much more easily handles showing offsets from the plane of the ecliptic, it still presents some problems on intelligently visualizing paths and other information.

The new camera should make revisiting this topic easier in the future, however. How it would actually impact gameplay in a meaningful way still is an open question, but if it ultimately ends up easy to do and visually is cool, can't see why wouldn't eventually try and support it.

After all the other cool stuff we still want to finish. :)

Wait so the planets can orbit the sun in a circle, but can't manage any other conical motion?

    Damn it.

Elliptical orbits and tilted ones aren't the same thing. The system editor can edit elliptical orbits already, so I wouldn't be surprised if they were in the game at release. That's a good question for a dev or vanguard though.

Exactly THIS!! I really don't have any problems with this not being in the original game, but i think the functionality should be there in the engine to utilize.

Why would 3d space prevent you from intercepting orbit at any angle?? I think only two angles of invasion is silly..... it's space not to mention the obvious, it's a game......I say we have star shaped orbits
