What are your thoughts on the current model for the Avenger?

I think that the Avenger could use another part (ex. a fin or antenna) or possibly another bend in the long arm section of the ship to skew the current model. Even though I'm sensing some cool Star Wars B-Wing inspiration, I've noticed that it looks too much like a handgun. In particular, take a look at the shadow of the ship on a planet in the 2nd and 3rd jpgs below. When there are several together, it doesn't look like an invading force of orbiting warships...it looks like a bunch of space pistols floating above a planet...Space Pistols...sounds like a great name for a band, hehe.

I'm hoping it won't be an issue as they'll just ditch the idea of an Orbital Fighter altogether.

That aside I like the aesthetic to the current model, it isn't just a plane in space type thing.

    Interesting.

What would be the reasoning to ditch the orbital fighter?

Would you get rid of solar arrays as well? Or would solar arrays be un attackable? Or would there be something else?

I don't really want to derail the thread, especially as I've talked about this in other threads, but the core point for me is that orbital should be more than Air2.0, right Now Orbital Fighters are basically ASFs From SupCom:FA and we know how "great" of an effect they had on gameplay.

I'd prefer some combo of static orbital defense satellites and kamikaze satellites.

KKVs would be nice, but I'm not opposed to orbital fighters.

Not keen on it, but don't actually get to see them that much close up so don't care what they look like.

I think the Avenger looks very ugly. But I'll live. (Atleast they ain't not plains no moar.)

Still I would like them to be better looking, if possible.

If the orbital layer has to be considered as the ground/water/air layer, then i would expect to have the ability to build spatial stations (Space factories) being able to build their own units, which would extend the gameplay. To me there's a bit of contradiction to reject the idea of space battles and introduce a unit such as the avenger.

i dont see too much of a prob with it... yes it can travel between planets which kinda makes it a spaceunit but it is focusing to fight around planetorbits and not
in space like in conquest frontier wars or startrek armada the space units here function and are handled differently then in those games as they use orbital flight pathes then direct flightpathes between planets

My two cents: The arm needs to be shorter and look sturdier.

The Asymmetric nature of the orbital fighter is killing me.

It could use some symmetry for just orbital statehood.

    Why Symmetry?

because it needs thrusters on both sides to make navigation easier IMO. Most space ship designs I've seen are usually symmetric for this reason, Satellites can be obtuse since they are just sensor nests.

it's exactly what they were meant to look like. now all we need is for the arm to turn and aim.

but this is a prime example of people on the forum not knowing what they want, symmetry would ruin them. (symmetry ruins alot of things, mind you.)

Personally id like the orbital stuff to be overhauled with something truly unique to the level.

What if the orbital stuff was modular like the ISS in real life, and your orbital stuff would be built via sacrifice constructors to add modules onto the growing super structure, but with penalty's like larger constructs being immobile, having less acceleration and such.

But that might just end up as a sudo-experimental or game ender.
