Surely that would just mean that poorer people would pay a much larger percentage of their income as taxe and rich people would pay a much smaller percentage? Doesn't seem fair at all.

Exactly, this would screw over the lower income earners who now have to pay even more for the essentials while the rich get off easy.

No course not. a low income earner who doesnt spend anything would pay no tax under that system.
Also I've never understood why people think high income earners should pay higher rates, penalise people for doing well to pay for offsetting those that dont.
(for the record im a relatively low income earner working in the Public/Tax Accounting profession)

In what world do people with a low income spend nothing? Most people I know with low income spend ALL of their money - the vast majority of it on essentials, like food, rent, etc.

In any society, certain skills are valued higher than others and therefore people who have those skills get more materialistic awards than people who don't. Compare a baseball player to a cricket player. Or take the ghetto's in America. A black youth has to work ten times harder with poorer resources than a white kid from Beverly Hills for the same position. Material wealth is a combination of an individual's own qualities and actions and the opportunities their environment provides them with. The best way to equalize these opportunities is by taxing the high income earners more than low income earners and use the extra money to invest in poorer communities.

For factual proof, look at the Netherlands and Scandinavia, two areas where taxes are at their highest. I'm not too sure about Scandinavia, but I do know that in the Netherlands, true poverty is practically extinct. There also have been studies about where people are the happiest and Scandinavia and the Netherlands always come out on top in those studies.

Mine was a clean slate - no idea what the other ones are.

I just remember a raffle where everyone got clean slates (which was pretty funny since it caused quite the uproar IIRC), so I assumed this was happening again right here. Maybe it's different this time and you just got unlucky, who knows...

At different points in time I received a number of codes from Uber. 100 of them were cleanslates and a number weren't. I know during the CODE forum games I only gave out like 60ish clean slates and 1 cosmetic item. Which was a vertigo pocketwatch. I have a boat load of codes left and they are all unsorted and unlabeled. I also mixed all the codes after the CODE game so I could distribute them fairly.

But yeah pretty high chance at getting clean slates.
