Today I'm started one more iteration of checking old bugs and found PA#1815. Bug itself isn't such important and actually it's fixed quite long ago, but comment of exterminans remember me about quite old PA problem related to how PA handle "move orders". For example if you have 3 groups of engineers or fighters with different move order: Use default "Maneuver" Use "Roam" Use "Hold position" If you take them all together and play with them a bit most likely you'll notice that personal settings of groups are mixed and broken. First I'm think to submit this to Uber, but then decide that's it's most likely incomplete feature and actually somebody else might be interested to know how exactly devs planned to handle move orders in large groups of units. Should units inherit move orders of group they're assisting? If yes should group get their previous move orders back after they finish assisting? Share your ideas and observations.
Personally i would like to see units have individual roles in a group based on how the attack,roam,hold-fire on each unit is set. Example units in group set to roam take wider alternate paths when asked to move to another point on the map.
Units should retain their tactics when given an order. The game should respect whenever a player has made a deliberate choice, and not automatically override it. Someone is probably going to find a use for having 'maneuver' and 'roam' units in the same attack group, eventually. That said, I've never been fond of the move tactics system. It fits well in turn-based games, and has its fringe benefits, but I've always felt it was too obtuse for a decently paced RTS game.
It's interesting how it's gonna work when formations implemented. E.g they can easily break idea of "hold position" mode.
im not sure on pa and its orders but TA went like this: Roam: unit will indefinetly pursue enemy unit that enters attack range maneuver: unit will pursue enemy unit for a small distance then return to original position hold position: pretty obvious is PA following the same formula or do they now mean something different???
Follow the lead selection / primary group instructions (if possible). Always in the case of pathing follow to the end of the path (i.e. naval and air units being grouped, both should follow the same path where possible but the naval units should stop when they hit the other side of the water volume, and not somewhere inbetween (or not at all)). If you're queuing orders, then yes, the assisting group should revert to their previous behaviour. Same goes for any automated behaviour that you disrupt by manual allocation.
