GoG winter sale is starting, and day 1 gets free Fallout 1, 2, and Tactics. 2 is the best, but they're all free anyways so grab them while you can. The site is getting a pretty hefty load right now, so it might take some time to get, but they're worth it. http://www.gog.com/
Apparently they are free again today as well, so there are another 21 hours for those who haven't picked them up yet. There are also some pretty sweet deals on other games going on, I just have most of the games I'd care about from them already. EDIT:Since search is working today it appears that Stargunner is also now free. I don't know if that's a short or long term one though as I'm not familiar with the game. Looks like a decent shmup.
Fallout 1 and 2 have aged well for the most part. There are some instances of clunkiness in the UI, mainly with the inventory system, but you'll get used to it quickly enough. In all honesty, I prefer Fallout 1 and 2 to any of the direct sequels (Fallout 3, New Vegas, etc), which just can't stand on the same level as the originals. Fallout 1 and 2 are definitely games all RPG fans should play.
Speaking of Fallout, apparently Fallout 4 will be based in Boston, Ma. http://kotaku.com/leaked-documents-reveal-that-fallout-4-is-real-set-in-1481322956 I would be super psyched if it supported the Oculus Rift. That would be the game to make me get it. Hopefully by then the Oculus will have dropped in price. Or have enough units out that I could buy a used one on the cheap.
I'm sure whoever made money on those titles was not pleased GoG just gave them away for free for a day. They are still on Steam though.
Interplays rights to the games expired December 31st. ZeniMax now owns the rights fully and said no to GoG having them. It's possible that that's only temporary while they negotiate new terms(same thing happened to the steam version, it just took much less time), but I doubt it'll be back on GoG.
And that officially completes the ZeniMax monopoly on Fallout. In retrospect, Interplay probably gave away the games for free on purpose to mess with ZeniMax. A final "Forget You ZeniMax" so to speak.
It's not Fallout, but someone can have Arma 2 for free: https://www.humblebundle.com/gift?key=FrFqesFrRFUbNE4W
