The lava planets are coming along nicely, but their still a far cry away from what the original concept was like, I hope that Uber don't abandon the original concept with the height differential between the lava and terrain because this was something I was so hyped to see and experience in the game, to give that little extra depth to the game, the sense of real danger if your units fall into the lava pits, rather than having the lava's act more like flat ocean floors, that would just ruin the experience of lava planets in my opinion. below is a pic of what i mean.

I hope they don't abandon this original concept totally, yes it was only the first ever design of it, but I feel the game would benefit so much in the style of the game and visually stunning. Now the games launch has been put back until "its done when its done" release date.... there is plenty of time now to change the lava planets to this original concept now. PLEASE UBER PLEASE!!

I agree. The lava planets in their current state don't do anything for me.

What is missing the most is the hight difference and the ramps. This will be implemented but it is not a priority right now. This also applies for all other types of planets.

The lava has already changed only the hottest and deepest spots are bright yellow.

Scale is also an issue in the picture, most mountain objects are the same hight as the hight difference.

yea I have to admit they are improving the lava planets, very slowly but they are getting a bit better... the volcanos look pretty sweet now... but yeah the height differential is my biggest thing.... So long as it gets implemented because I feel its such an important piece for the look and feel of the game

All worlds atm is lacking height, they are sadly very flat.

Especially the earth type world, it feels like you are on a smooth ball. instead of rough planet.

But we will seem soon enough. definitely gonna be sad, if planets are just gonna be mostly flat 2d planes :(

Well I dont think they will stay that way but the impression I got was the mountains and the sliders are about all we're going to get as far as geometry height maps go but I hope it'll change.

im sure they will make planets like on the pics

    I mean think about it
whole planets with that kinde of detail and look that always gets randomly generated no other RTS game ever done that

this game would have the best maps ( eh sory I mean PLANETS )

this game already stands out from Other RTS games with unique stuff

this would be one of the major thing.

There are height differences like that in the game already, on metal planets. Played a game recently where I had some battles in the death star -like canyons. But yeah, hopefully we'll see more of that on the other planet types too. Definitely makes the gameplay more exciting as well, when units can't fire on higher/lower ground.

I'm not all that concerned about the firing arc from height advantages and disadvantages as some folks here are if Uber ever decide to have the planets like the picture I posted then that stuff will get sorted but for me its just spectacular visually which adds a hell of a lot to the planets and environments we play on from a visual perspective, it just adds a lot. I just hope uber don't abandon that concept, it was one of the reasons I was an early backer.

If people judge by modern day cartoons then I understand completely. Compare the quality of i.e old school Looney Tunes and Disney to the contemporary cartoon **** you see on the prolefeed and I understand the argument completely.

Just going to post some Image comparrisons of the Lava Planets that were done all the way back in August and were shown durring the livestream back then to how they look now. Patience is a virtue indeed but I really have absolutely no idea why on earth uber decided to completely dump this whole aspect of raised terrain and lava pools/pits. As you'll see from the build that just got released like an hour ago, what they had 5 months ago is CLEARLY so far beyond better than what they have today I...... just dont understand... It HAS to be a gameplay issue or something, too many issues in the path finding to completely scrap what they had in favour of their water biome.

This is a screenshot I took 5 minutes ago in todays brand new build.

Below are screenshots I cropped from the livestream in August last year:

Where I've maked with a circle, you can clearly see the terrain cut out and filled with the lava pools... This is the exact terrain the Lava really should be, absolutely NOT what is my first screenshot here. It boggles me that the peeps at uber really actually prefer the state that the Lava planets are current at right now, its their game I know, and I still love the game but clearly we all want it to be as awesome as we can make it? I just hope they plan on adding it back in at some point... Bloom really needs to be applied to the lava as well, far too orange and doesn't stand out anywhere near what the concept pic does.

Still feel strongly for this, and its literately the ONLY issue I have.... Please dont everyone shoot me for posting this so damn soon after the new build...

Mind you, this looks better than it actually could be, because there's no way the lava could emit light and shadow like this, and it's actually a large part of what makes this lava so impressive.

Maybe it's just me, but I think the current lava planets are gorgeous in comparison to the alpha. Yes, they need more height variation, as all of the biomes do, in good time.

I agree hence why I was talking about adding bloom to the lava because I think it would give off the same impressive lighting effect this particular concept picture has. Making the lava pop out more, as well as making it actually appear really hot. Can you imagine your units walking around these sort of area's and walking down into places like the ramp section at the top of this concept picture and just melting into the lava (even though the path finding would prevent this) but would be pretty kool to see units melting in that lava though. No naval units heh
