I wouldn't have it as a permanent change, only an option, to make the game a bit harder to whoever wishes to play that way. I think it'd be fun having to scout for even the metal spots.

I'm really growing fond of that Mex, Power Plant, Mex, Mex, Power Plant, Bot Factory opening

You waste too much energy when you do this. I would recommend just building a dox first instead of the energy.

Pretty similar to Brian's, I go mex, pgen, mex, mex, bot fac. Five fabbers, first for metal, next 2 to assist comm on energy, 4th for metal, fifth for air factory. Then 2 doxes and at least 20 fabbers.
I've also started doing an early power storage at around my 6th-10th pgen.
On very small planets I sometimes get up a missile turret before air fac as doxes can scout well enough.

I used to do that. But build power in of itself is a resource and you don't want to delay it.

Watch the opening of this match: http://pamatches.com/2013/1v1-between-brianpurkiss-mattrmunson-2/

The delay of build power really sets you back.

Energy fills back up so fast that I've been experimenting with mex, mex, pgen, mex, bot factory.

NICE!!! not for you but still nice ;) matt has seemed to improve a great deal, ive played him a handful of times. i liked your cross examination of yourself. something all these new players should be doing!!! WATCH YOUR REPLAYS!!!! if can add my constructive criticism your biggest failure in my eyes was just a simple lack of factories. 1v1 you should be crapping them out like you have diarrhea!!! i also noticed you talking about your floating eco..... yea you were lax a bit, but sometimes thats inevitable especially when things reach a larger scale and multiple planets. only so much one man a keyboard and a mouse can do at one time. you also criticized your floating eco after matt had brought down the buildings that were eating that eco up..... all in all enjoyable to watch and good commentary :) keep it up!! ill have to check more of your casts out

Yes, you're right. Not using my economy was my biggest fault. I needed a lot more factories a lot sooner. Building factories is a recurring problem of mine. :-/

Like I had said, I haven't been playing many 1v1s lately. Mostly Army – which is a big difference in tactics.
