Hi guys/gals I just had a thought, regarding the orbital fighters...currently there has/is a lot of contention regarding these. 1. Remove orbital fighters from the orbital playfield and use them as standard gunships unit that can attack ground and air (think brawler, TA, but weaker then current fighters and bombers) on a planet. 2. Give them an afterburner that lets them fly to another planet/roid/moon. This would activate automatically when you send them to another planet and then would go on a 10 minute cooldown when they arrive. This would effectively give you another option for planetary invasion on top of stargates and unit cannons and normal transports (when/if implemented). Construction wise, they could be built from the Adv. Aircraft factory, or from the Orbital factory when/if it is implemented. My personal preference would be to have hem built in orbit and then drop down into the atmosphere Thoughts...?
Orbital needs/is getting a general overhaul, best to wait and see what direction that takes and whether Orbital Fighters even make it. Mike
What's the point of doing that? Just add a separate Gunship unit. 2. is dependent on 1, and relies explicitly on you not being able to orbitally transport (etc.) air units using any other method.
I just hope that orbital retains its current feel. While I was once a strong supporter of epic space battles I've changed my view and I think the curent way is indeed the way to go for planetary annihilation. Currently orbital feels unique and kinda how orbital should feel. I dislike the idea if having to build orbital structures with orbital fabbers (I would rather see them be build on the ground and then launched up via rocket or space lift).
