Usually, my 1v1 or FFA3 games start like this:

mex, power, mex, Bot fac, power, mex, mex, ton of power, then either naval or air depending on the map.

If its a naval spawn: Mex, power, mex, mex, naval, power, power, mex, mex, ton of power, air fac, naval facs, and more power.

I send out my fabs to take mex clumps ASAP and leave the nearest mex's for later bots.

I also queue up one air fab on my first air fac. Bot fac build order: 3 fabs, 5 dox, 100 fab.
Naval build: Bluebottle, 2 fabs, 2 bluebottles, 2 fabs, 100 bluebottles.

    Team games are more complex.

I go four mex on naval s spawn since they're so metal hungry...

^ seems like you're giving up valuable time not grabbing mex closest to you first.I understand your logic but you're wasting time waiting for said fab to travel x amount of distance for five mex or so vs the two or three that are ready and waiting and could be adding to your army. Not to mention over extending yourself, if you played an aggressive player like me,I would wipe clean your cluster then all your initial investment is poof!!!

I really agreed with the power storage going up.... that can really speed up things!!!

I have found that: 2 mex, 2 power and then a bot factory.... after that I have my com and 1 bot do about 15- 20 power..... my bot factory then puts out bot fab's and they work on more storage, max, power, defense, A factory and may be a V factory (I might go for one of these but depends on the map) .... One think Ive seen is that trying for some t2 units for t2 power and max.... Really can put you ahead!!!!

After this it really depend on what my opponent is doing....

I don't think energy storage is such a good idea early game. In a game where energy is so important, I would rather have a bot factory which has similar enough costs using that 100k energy I could be saving. If you have a build that makes you not crash for 2 mins you have spent more than the enemy can save and that's before your dox start harassing.

My current build is m,m,e,m bot, e, bot, m and then all e. First factory is
Usually all fabbers but would change dependent on walk distances etc. second is building harassing doxes for the whole game.

My build is the same as it was in your last thread, Brian.
Mex, Energy, Mex, Mex, Mex, Mex, Bot Factory, more Energy

First two bots that come out of the factory help the commander on building more energy.
I'm usually energy stalled for about 5 seconds at some point, but after that everything goes smoothly. After ten-twelve energy plants I build my first 1-2 energy storages.

I'm actually trying out an alternative where I only go
Mex, Energy, Mex, Mex, Mex, Bot Factory

In this variation I send my first fabrication bot building metal instead of helping the commander on more energy.
Then the next two get to help the commander. I don't know how effective it is, yet. But at least it seems to work.

Mex, Power, Mex, Mex, Bot Factory, commander building power and storage until late game, Factory build 4 fabbers send off in two groups of 2 after mex's preferably in opposite directions so both can't be raided easily, factory then builds 4 dox to send off in the 4 directions to guard and harasses/scout if I'm not raided early, Factory then builds fabbers for the rest of the game eco is now quite good so first new fabbers go on one or two air factories then a bunch of tank factories while of course sending out more groups of fabbers to expand me eco more while building up tech 2 and more factories for my army :) and of course being me after getting advanced tech and getting a bunch of advanced mex's and abit of advanced power I shall always get a nuke as they are just sooo useful right now ^^

that's the point couldn't have said it any better myself..... it is full by the time I finish pgen 3mex..... it pays for itself really, then I can push more fab harder in a longer burst and each roll off time or time in between mex you now get to save that energy!!!! Instead of waste it. However you guys are welcome to your opinion. To each his own, but you asked about initial build so I told...

Energy storage first only works if you have a long walk to your first mass spot. Looking at my last few game I normally waste 100k energy after 5 min 30. If you build an energy first instead of the energy storage you would have produced 180,000 more energy in those first few minutes. So you basically waste your storage within 5 mins and are behind because I have a 1 more fabber.

Looking over my argument I realise energy storage does not work if you have a long walk.

Sure come to the IRC :D. Maybe it works for your build order, but it is not efficient enough i would argue.

I can play you some other time, but I will say it won't prove anything. If you beat me it will be because you are a better player, not because of your start. 15 seconds is easy to recover ffrom if you are the better player.

^^ speaking of playing a game I'd enjoy having another one vs you :) It's been so long since our last one and I really only won because i rushed nukes xP your bot raiding was intense.

You get your factory up earlier and you get your first fabbers out earlier.

From there I continue building a couple of mexes, then energy until morning.

Depending on how much I am deciding I will hate my economy that game I either get my fabbers fabbing stuff straight away (and heartily crash my eco doing so), or I wait until I can support them and bring them on one by one.

what problem would this solve though? to me, it seems like it would add to the whole problem of the scouting mechanics. I need to be able to see what my opponent is doing so that i can formulate strategies against them. If i dont know where they are, and dont know where they could be, how the hell would rushing strategies be viable?

On topic: My builds are from the same time period as the last thread =O and other than changing them to abuse the abusive unit/s, the opening will likely be perfectly the same.
