I am currently experience a bug where I am unable to connect to Ubernet when I startup the game. The repro is as follows: Specs: Macbook Pro, Mavericks. Steps: Launch PA from Steam Game launches successfully, and I see the "Connecting to Ubernet..." message Game sits there forever I quit out of PA, and try to restart Steam says PA is still running I try to quit Steam, and it says it has to wait for PA to finish exiting Have to force quick Steam Restart steam Restart PA I am able to successfully connect 95% of the time after the game starts.
Can you try to run non-Steam version and check if it's affected? https://store.uberent.com/Download/Install?titleId=4
In my unscientific testing, the standalone client does not seem to have any issues. Looks like its a Steam + PA issue.
Can you try to disable Steam overlay and test it? Right click PA in your Library Select Properties Uncheck the box next to "Enable Steam Community In-Game"
I spoke too soon; I just had the issue occur again with the overlay off. Not sure what is causing it now.
Steam has been very slow this week, I cant get portal 2 to download community made levels and team fortress is stuck at 98% of an updtae and dying my end... Joys of steams overloaded sucky server system....lol Do you play with your mac-book connected to the internet via Ethernet cable or over WiFi to router. I recommend using an Ethernet cable to router/modem, it should stop the issue your having Your have similar issues to me, when i use my pocket WiFi modem i need to use the USB cable, WiFi ping is crap for PA it triples loading times my end or games wont load at all PA will just hang there in the lobby saying games ready but i'm never able to join.. If your playing over WiFi let me know if changing to Ethernet cable fixes things. For me using Ethernet cable instantly fixed the issues, The Lobby loads systems fast and the game starts when i click ready ...
The fact that a link is WiFi or Ethernet doesn't matter at all. The application itself has no idea what the link type is. However, if your environment is such that WiFi signal is crappy, yes that would matter. I am using WiFi but my connection is solid. We'll see if it improves at all. Currently the issue is happening regularly again. Don't know what that 4 or 5 times of success was all about...
I have wireless N and i sit next to my router and still have issues.. I totally disagree, a 100mbit cable over a 54mbit wifi connection makes all the world of difference.. Ping is totally different between the interfaces too..
one favor .. before you shoot the idea down just give it a try and let me know if using the ethernet cable does help at all.. My end i found it almost doubled gameplay quality and had no issues with server communication. Everytime i use WiFi i run into issues playing PA.. PA uses a lot of bandwidth and has a need for a very low ping in order to be in time with the server..
