Hints and Tips

Thought I'd try compile a list of useful tools and tips which should be taking into consideration if you are looking to climb above the average PA player. Bear in mind that these are just what I use, so don't take it as gospel as I'm sure many people have better setups than me.

1. Setup:

• Ideally your mouse should have at least one thumb button. Set this button to shift. Crank your mouse to full speed. Or gradually increase until you are the highest dpi settings.
  
• Download Reaven's PA Mod manager and install any mod you think will improve your gameplay. Currently I use Hotbuild, PA stats, commander health and timer.
  
• Keymappings:
  As of now, I am using cola_colin's hotbuild, this is by far the single quickest way to improve your game.
  
  Along with this I use a custom setup using both the keyboard settings in game, and some extra keys I have on my mouse and keyboard.
  
  Cntrl 0-1 To set up groups and 0-1 to recall the groups.
  Shift F1-F8 To set camera anchors and F1-F8 to recall.
  Tab to toggle energy conservation.
  Button over tab is select all units of type.
  Extra side button on mouse to reclaim.
  
  I use the select all factories and tab if I need a sudden income boost for radar/ bomb runs / other energy sapping units I want to use asap.
  
  
  
  
• Have show unit icons always on and metal spot icons also on.
  
• Using the f11 key in game is great for making enemy structures stand out in th fog of war (not the best example, but you can see what I mean):
  
  

This is all I can think of at the minute, hope it helps levelling the playing field instead of already being behind before you build your first mex.

I need to look into these mods though since I've been here since alpha and have yet to try any....... guess I'm just old fashioned

I think you should put a disclaimer in this thread. We don`t know whats in store for us later on in the games development. Its the main reason why no video guides have been made because a version of a game could make the guide redundant except for a few that can stand the test of time.

Regardless of balance changes or new units, key-binding will always make you faster at performing actions. The rest is just mods which also won't directly change from game updates.

It will but if new features are introduced some key bindings he suggested may be sacrificed for other newer features.

I really don't like the idea that you need to have an extremely sensitive mouse to become good at a game.

Other then that, I feel this can be summed up with have a look at the mods and make the most of key binding. Its interesting to see what other people use.

Yeah I think that's bogus, too. I am at 800 dpi with medium settings in windows. Apart from that nice post.

I never said that this will make you good at the game. I just recommend it. There is nothing wrong with 800 dpi on medium, but the average player will have much lower speeds than that.

Only 212 people use pastats which is the best mod, so wouldnt say the numbers are much higher with hotbuild. The average player which this post is aimed at don't use them. Maybe this will help.

I think my mousespeed really is pretty average.
Also I wonder how many people really use hotbuild. I've actively made a bit of advertisements for PA Stats, none for hotbuild.

I use it, why would you need anyone else to? =O

People spend most of the time making the wrong strategic decisions not fiddling with their mice or getting button basher mods in. besides the way clopse hits left mouse he doesn't need the help.

I dont even understand wth you are going on about.

Think he's trying to say that I press the left mouse button so much I don't need any other buttons to press. He's a pro so doesnt waste any clicks.

Those pros are pretty hard to come by, i wish i was one. One day maybe =[

What is your system ?
You won't become a class player unless you have a powerful machine

Dude you deserve a way better like to post ratio.

Clopse you lose Qdos for seeking to get an advantage over other players. Why use mods like these if your are already finding the server full of noobs, you should be handicapping your yourself and gunny.
