Wishlist: Tell Santa what you want

    I don't see a "wishlist" thread, so I thought I'd make one.

    Not that I seriously expect anything in a wishlist thread to make it into a game: but it might serve to show if there's a particular idea that lots of the beta players think would be really awesome for a later expansion or something.

    Personally, I'd wish for mass drivers, great big asteroid-sized interplanetary bullet-throwers. Or maybe actual asteroids, like in Babylon 5...

    Not really a need for a wishlist thread since many of the threads are simple wishlists and discussion about those wishes. You could say this entire forum is half wishlist half questions about the game.

    Your mass drivers seems to be getting into the realm of space combat, which is a confirmed no.

    We can already smash astroids...

    Meh, apart from to serve a purpose, I think the unit cannon is over anticipated and kind of bland. Id much rather have the egg, or drop barge style units!
    Plus the unit cannon is from supreme commander 2, and I don't think any ideas made it out to that s*** fest completely clean...

    I agree. I'm more looking forward to The Egg, if it is indeed a drop shock troopers style capsule transport.

    Honestly, we kinda need The Egg to invade planets if there's no moons in the system or you cannot obtain a moon. Without The Egg, there's no way to invade a planet without a moon, which is a problem.

    - that Uber manage to make the game we all dream about
    - Super Units of Death & Mass Destruction of Apocalyptical Annihilation
    - a new computer that would allow me to play the game in great conditions (or a godly optimisation of the code)...

    Oh, where to start?

    Technical:
    • Virtual Texture settings that can reduce the memory load of planets by at least an order of magnitude.
    • Prevention of unsightly texture pop-in at all detail levels.
    • Much better API controls over in-game data.
    • Ability to load new json files in-game, for creating modular units or game types.
    • More advanced atmospheric shaders.
    • Much faster and more efficient UI. (One of the more overlooked issues in games this decade.)
    Features:
    • Planet Editor allowing you to save and load unique, manually created planets. Complete with support for terrain types and images to be used as painting brushes, and placeable interactive features like unit wrecks or wildlife.
    • On that note, wildlife. Especially AI controlled units that are not considered players and are not part of victory conditions.
    • Modding: Custom resource types and interactions.
    • Modding: Clouds, tornadoes, electric storms, tidal waves and other weather phenomena.
    • Deep space objects that are not planets or units. Debris fields? Space stations? Megaliths?
    Units:
    • MORE DAKKA.

    If wishes were horses, I could host a barbecue.

    In terms of a "mass driver". A mass driver is a proposed electromagnetic launch system for intrastellar objects.

    Not that unit cannon is my wish. Mass drivers are already confirmed.


    I don't really see where the idea that the unit cannon can only be used on moons has come from. Like people say, it would just relegate it to being second rate interplanetary transport

    Which is a point, although this is slightly off topic (only slightly because the egg is my wish) have we actually heard anything about the egg lately/what DO we know?
    (Tried searching first but didn't find anything coherent).

    I really want a competitive ladder, expanded observing functionality and e-sports tools but that's because I have a vested interest. I doubt they're a priority at all, so I will remain patient :).

    Remember Uber works on what is a priority for getting the game made, not making a beta more playable - so don't get super invested or disappointed by expecting this thread to fulfill your wishes!

    Haha, don't worry Zaphodx, I don't think anyone here actually expects this thread to have any impact on the prioritisation/implementation of features. I have a distinct feeling the scale issue will never get fixed, and I doubt that will change even if every person who ever posts in this thread says it is their wish ;).
