Was think about building on other planets and really thought that it would be nice if you could some how build a cloaking building our satellite.... I'd say to balance the game out require it to take a huge amount of power.... It would be nice to be able to travel to another planet and you enemy not be able to find you.... or even on your home planet build a small one so that the advanced satellite can see everything!!!!

Was thinking that you could even build a small planet cloaking satellite.... It could use around 250,000 power.... but keep you hidden from the enemy for a while..... to solve the energy problem have special power satellite orbit the sun that produces 250,000 power. But beware that any time you power hits red you cloaking device shuts down....

    Any thoughts on it????

I think a cloaking satellite or other methods of cloaking your commander or large areas are going to mess up game play but I would be interested in a small range cloaking system with an appropriate counter.

I see you're new here, and welcome!

Before posting, you should do a search in accordance with forum rules.

Granted, it has been a while since this has been discussed. However, I'm pretty sure Uber has said stealth won't be in the initial release of the game but may be added later.

Personally, I'm not a fan of stealth.

totaly depends on how it is implemented .. implenting stealth units would require the player to make proper scouting also allows for nice tactics that dont neccesarily requier much micro ... it ads a layer of tense to the game in which the player has to expect anything ..
of course the challenge would be not to make stealth units to powerfull for comsniping ... which may admitedly quite dificult on a scale of PAs caliber

note i am talking bout steals.. not cloak

Not a fan of stealth. Its too pro turtle.
Radar is already easy to destroy. If you want a surprise attack take out the radar first.

I think covert, offensive stealth is awesome. The stealth towers from SupCom were neither covert nor offensive.

People always say that, how often does anyone actually do it? Because maybe if I am wrong, if you can destroy the radar, why not destroy something more valuable if you are capable of getting there?

Because basic radar is cheap and short range good players build lots of them to give coverage. So they are usually relatively undefended. Taking out a couple of them with bombers leaves the other player with a blind spots you can use. Sure they will probably have 1 in the middle of their main base, but it wont give them much notice of an attack.

Oh and an aside... to improve this further mass extractors and power gens should have no vision range.

Ever other unit gives a little vision, so I don't like that idea.

    Hey.
    Hey.
What if radar didn't work on metal worlds, because the metal screws it all up? It'd be a planet where everything has stealth!

( Total Annihilation had an extremely powerful and reasonable cloaking system with excellent outcomes that no one took the time to realize or care about.)

I feel like the furthest stealth should go is just anti-radar.

Possibly total cloaking if there is some common structure or unit that reveals cloaked units, they can't fire while cloaked and have significant cooldown after their cloaking is dispelled

Cloak satelite sounds interessting, but NO. I would like te anti-radar. ;)

Cloak for units, doesn't really sound like a good idea in my opionion. But I can agree with some tanks that are invisible for radar.

Actually radar isn't very necessary in PA right now until you get God's Eye radar in Orbital Tech. It's less of a hassle to just have units sitting about everywhere.

The only reason you *need* radar right now is for Levelers and artillery units.

NB - if this doesn't make it into vanilla, it might well end up in a mod.

We're likely going to have an intel mod in our planned mod pack and I suspect stealth and/or cloak will form a part of this.

The cloak that most people are familiar with is the cloak from starcraft and Supcom. When they say "no cloak" they mean "don't use that cloak", and I completely agree. Those cloaks are not built for a strategic sized battlefield. The Total Annihilation cloak IS. Use the TA cloak.

Okey, I'm confused what is the difference between the ways of cloaking?

The Eye in the sky (of Sauron) is also usefull for seeing unit movement and attack runs.

Cloak = invisible to you, the player, even if it is within your FOV

Stealth = undetectable by radar (i.e. no radar blip) but is viewable when in FOV
