I've had this for some time now, but I think it's gotten worse in subsequent builds unfortunately. When I type text in the lobby, it can take up to (literally) 4-6 minutes for the text to appear. When it does, often I'll receive a page of people's chats at once. Often, this is of the nature of 'click ready!' and 'gee I wish we had a kick function!' Not good. Points that may help:

    a) I'm in Australia. I've found this in US as well as AU servers however.
    b) The same thing happens for clicking 'ready' - long long delays
    c) Delay is only a few seconds or so (sometimes none) once the game starts, and there's nothing like that type of delay in the game experience itself
    d) It does seem worse when the 'loading dot' is yellow, but it can be equally bad when it's green.
    e) gets much worse when I get larger 6+ lobbies, but 2-3 player small systems have no lag.

Others in the lobby seem less affected as my 'delayed page of chat' seems to show people having an exchange.

Specs are in the sig. CPU isn't amazing but is quite alright, and I have 8gb ram and a very recent graphics card. Any help appreciated!

Because all players or you are still loading the system..... patience my friend its a virtue try chat after your light is green. Also connecting to US servers from Australia you're going to have lag no bones about it. It takes light a period of time to travel such a distance so.......

This isn't about the speed of light! The other clients seem to be exchanging chat with reasonable turnarounds, and they'd be building their systems on another thread also. Green light doesn't actually make it respond normally.

    That's the most puzzling component.
Surely, once it's finished loading, the lobby screen should return to functioning, but it doesn't... I'm almost convinced that, by the time the dot turns green, it's actually been loaded for some time, and it's just the lag that delays the status update that makes it take so long.

I agree. Some aspects suggest server latency, but then others are chatting so that would suggest client. Why it would take several minutes (real minutes) for clicking 'ready' to make a round trip is a question. I could try to sniff the data to see what end the latency is on, but I figured this would just get ironed out as things continued.

I've been around since the first alpha build and it wasn't like this previously, which makes me think the larger number of players online may be contributing.
