With previous builds I could not create a new game or join an existing game until I tried a few times (usually 2-3 attempts). No big deal as I understand this is beta and I enjoy playing so it is worth the patience. However with the new build I have tried 12 times now and cannot join or create a game at all. It always crashes before I see a planet. Is a new build due shortly to fix this once and for all?
Your problem is here: Code: Operating System: Windows 8.1 Pro Preview 32-bit (6.3, Build 9431) Memory: 8192MB RAM Available OS Memory: 3562MB RAM You have 32-bit OS and due to it's limitations you can't even use half of RAM you have in your computer. PA itself is also limited by 2GB RAM limit which is pretty low and it's actual reason why game crash all the time. I'm recommend you upgrade to 64-bit OS, this will fix all issues you have.
I am surprised you got the game working up till now. Also, let me search for you, but there is a cheap hack to get an extra half gig of ram available for the game even with 32bit. Let me search. If the game worked till now, it might continue with that (until you get 64bit)
I'm having some problems with my Ubuntu instance .. mouse graphic was working now its pixelated make it hard to play when you don't where your mouse went. Its almost like the image is failing to load. I was testing my windows box and have had to abandon that as I have pc problems on that machine. Also Have i missed something I now that the windows launcher will update the game on load.. I can't seem to find that in Ubuntu I end-up just re-downloading update tar.bz I have also notices some static on my Ubuntu instances when it comes to music and background game sounds . If this is wrong thread please let me know
It's mean you use open source drivers with Intel or AMD graphics card. Check this my post for fixes: https://forums.uberent.com/threads/arch-open-source-drivers-black-screen.54220/#post-829411
Actually link is here: https://forums.uberent.com/threads/crashing-on-32-bit-windows-heres-a-guide-to-help.51990/ But it's only let game use 3GB of RAM and there is no point to use 32-bit OS on such powerful hardware. It's just waste of resources.
Yes. it is still useful as heck though if one had the choice, to either temporary fix it and then get 64 real soon, or not play the game at all until they get 64. I run on temporary hardware right now too, I only got this computer as something that can both play PA now and upgrade a bit later. OH ALSO, if you need 64bit, then you can partition off a part of your hard drive, and get Linux, probably Ubuntu 64. You can just run that whenever you want to play PA, while running windows for your normal needs. If you are real tech savvy, you can run both at same time. I say this because Ubuntu is another cheap fix if you are unable to get windows64 immediately.
I have played one game now on build 57703 for mac. I ran into a very disappointing bug though. After I took the very long time it required to put 25 delta V engines on a moon to smash it into a planet I selected a destination and told it engage. The moon took off and proceeded to go right though the planet I selected over and over again. It just orbited there passing through the planet it was supposed to smash into again and again. I don't know if this is just a fluke or if something is now not working with planet smashing, but I thought I would mention it.
This usually happens more reliably when the planets are overly close to the sun. Like, within I would say "size 5 planet's diameter" from the sun, where a "size 5 planet" wouldn't fit in between the first planet in orbit and the sun. This also includes when a planet orbits another planet, and it orbits so closely you feel like you could reach out and touch the other (exaggerated, but you know what I mean by too close). I would suggest the devs to either not allow certain distances to the sun if it bugs the game, or fix this bug somewhere down the line. I sort of like doing that myself and was sad to find it causes orbital transition to bug. If orbits are too close, the game can't create an orbital path for things moving between planets; and a planet moving on jets is treated like this atm. It messes up moving planets, and it messes up the "lander" moving between planets (they will get stuck inside the sun or inside a planet or orbit infinitely).
