So it works reasonably well as is, but, here's my idea. It needs help from you all. I create a formidable ground force. So like any intelligent commander I support my forces with both fighters and ground aa. Here's the problem I set fighters and ground aa to guard several units in the army because as we know they both move faster than assault units. Now if I make a select box over all of them and give a move order the aforementioned aa takes off and gets obliterated before my assault makes contact. Currently the solution is placing my assault force in a squad and leaving my aa out and just on guard, thusly moving them around as a squad. However in the heat of battle I decide it's best to split my force to flank or distract. Here comes the selecting my air support dilemma again as they all get picked and speed off . If there would be a way to lock those units to guard and make them un selectable that'd be great!!
well double clicking and shift as well as group assignment help out there as you can quickly select the attack force independently from defense. here's how : either you select your defense group and assign them as group 1 then do the same with your attack group but assign them group 2 the keys 1 and 2 will call them up. OR double click a single ant while zoomed out a bit, hold shift and double click a single dox, you now have your complete attack force selected without the defense and intel units. HOWEVER group orders would really help here as instead of telling them to assist one unit (which when he dies, they'll stop) you could tell them to assist the whole group and they'd continue carrying out the order as the losses pile up.
group orders are coming but that still doesn't make them un selectable. Like I said when I'm attacking I sometimes take squad 1 and 2 and break them off into smaller groups mid combat to draw fire or attack an individual asset.
I would just like to be able to lock those anti air and fighters to that command of guard even a group command. I always count the ground aa off as dead anyhow. Somehow being able to reselect those units or unlock them would be cool but I'd be fine if it wasn't as well. When splitting your attack force being guarded, how the dedicated guard units might divide however sounds a little tricky. As the guard units might not be evenly spread at the time.... perhaps some command where you would select a squad then with another keystroke they would automatically divide evenly into separate groups which you could then select individually and reassign squad numbers..... devs please see this I hope....
In some games, using formations puts your tanks/bots in front, your aa in the middel and your artillary in the back. Also since we will get area commands you can set your planes on assist and then all those units.
I understand that. That's not my point. I'm wanting those you to stay locked to guard or move as slow as the slowest unit in the squad.... guess that's the easiest fix. If units placed in a squad only move as fast as the slowest unit.
