Isn't completely fleshed, but it is a mod in-game to have a lingering chat window with the last few messages.

Also, they should borrow a chat room for the "Start Screen" before you choose join game, for a larger chat.

Would be neat. Maybe we might get that with the new rewrite of the launcher. Or we will just have to keep using TeamSpeak 3.

That it would. Maybe a sneak peak of a new unit or commander...

Mavor always forgets me. I'm so unloved. :D But then, much like him, it's hard to encapsulate a weeks work, as we tend to do different things daily.

In addition to his list of updates:
    - There's also been some work on Linux to move it to SDL; this is in an effort to solve some linux specific issues, but may have longer term benefits that I'm not entirely aware of
    - Orbital revision is one of the things I'm actively talking to Mavor and others about. It's not going to change the basic function, but spread it out a little further so it is more accessible through the game, at least in the near term.
    - Get on a more consistent internal schedule; A few weeks ago we started moving to stricter iteration periods (2 weeks), and more clearly defined deliverables for each iteration. In the future, that should also make it easier to message what we're actually trying to accomplish. :)

Jon already covered most of the updates, and if I think of anything else, I'll throw it in this thread or the other main one currently making the rounds.

As far as global chat goes we actually have that built into Ubernet. The reason we haven't turned it on is that I'm skeptical that it's a good thing to have. Others disagree and we've been debating it a bit. If I had to bet I would guess we would turn it on eventually. If peoople have thoughts on that issue it might be best to start a thread.

    errr... what is GlobalChat?

Do you mean Steam Chat? (only people on your friends list?)

Or what I think you mean, where you can chat to anybody online in a chat room?

And what are some of the common arguments then? A true advantage I can see is that it would allow noobs to ask the community questions in game, find people who are keen for a particular game type.

Disadvantages - it could allow "cheating"... Makes the online experience a little less "safe"...

He likely means a lobby system with chat, and global chat meaning everyone can talk to everyone. IMHO it would be nice with channels (like IRC), with a default start channel (maybe by region?). But this should be split into a separate thread :)

Yeah. I'm happy to do that, just thought I should clarify the matter.

That's talk across game lobbies? Because in current state you can talk to everyone in your lobby

Global chat might be great, but since it's "your" lobby, wouldn't you need moderators?
You guys are slammed with dev work already, last thing you need is 1 more chunk to manage, especially since it's live.

Only 2 things that have been at me for a while. Some sort of match making to get into games fast without having to fiddle with lobbies. The second is hotkeys and its so important to me, it feels almost crippling that there is no default hotkeys for things. Its really hard to get it right and the fact it hasn't been started properly yet is kind of worrying for how its going to be at release.

I don't think a global chat would be a good thing to add.

Let's hope Uber doesn't make the same mistakes Sony did with Twitch Integration. ;)

    What mistake did Sony make?

From experience with GPGnet, FAF and the lack of a global chat in SupCom2(steam) I can say that a global chat is THE feature a living community NEEDS. Not having it hurts A LOT. Also see how people reacted when Blizzard refused to implement it in SC2 a few years ago. My personal reaction was to cancel my sc2 preorder and wait a year before I finally bought it (after chats were implemented).

Now I wont cancel my PA order because of a missing chat, but seriously a global chat is damn f**ing important.

Just do a news search for "Sony Playroom." Though it was more of a joke.

I just have a lot of bad experiences with most on-line community's.

I cant even play MP against anyone but close friends any more because of how competitive people can get becuse of little instances, like:

Start too close to the other player, attack them with bots and commander, player calls entire game pointless.

I just don't like that, it totally ruins my game when people act like that, and generally that is how global chats turn out when the louder people just out shout the better members of the community because they can.

My vote has to be no I am afraid.

Well it depends on the implementation of it though. Like Warcraft3 did it best. Where they have segmented chat limited to 100 people per room that places you in a room when you login. In that case you can ask questions talk about the pro matches going on...etc. There were only a few games ive ever seen but Warcraft3 was the best example of how to do it. Having a massive room that isn't moderated is a really stupid idea in general but the other way is entirely fine and actually gives life to the game in a way because you aren't alone just playing random games you are included in a conversation. Having rooms and a list of the top rooms is also a good idea too to compliment the 100 people public rooms.

GPGnet had a limit of 100 people per room, too.
It barely ever reached that though.

lol. I dont think PA will have that kind of problem. What seems to happen with the PS4 is that some people at the lower end of the intelligence range buy it and are able to use it to stream to twitch. So the PS4 allows stupid people to use twitch to stream ****. Without the PS4 they would probably not be able to setup a camera and the required software themselves.

but yeah sure I get what you mean with it was a joke

@igncom: So just leave the chat at once or dont read it if you dont like it ;)
