There are far more ways to diversify units than meaningless 'labels' like those.

For example there is easily enough room for 3 distinct AA weapon types.

It amazes me how many people doesn't bother to read PA updates and watch developer videos when they are clearly interested in this game.

    I agree.
Just saying that there were much more units than just 2-3 you can use and they all filled a clear role on the battlefield, although you were exaggerating on purpose with the 2-3 part but still.

Just having a role isn't enough thought, everything in SupCom had a role technically but we still only ever used a small selection of units. Mobile Missile Launchers had the role of attacking bases, but 9 times out of 10 it was just better to build more of the basic attack units and go in guns blazing.

Giving everything roles is only the first of many steps to get unit depth/variety.

Im just gonna reply to this one.

On average, only a handful of units are used. Many have niche roles or roles that other units can easily fulfill with very little drawback.

Secondly, new units are underway for PA. this game is beta, not finished, usual stuff.

I didn't play supcom online enough to really comment on what was and wasn't useful- but TA and more recently Spring has loads of units and *almost* all are useful depending on circumstances. As with all strategy games there are certain units which form the 'backbone' of your army which is what we currently have in PA.

That doesn't negate the units that only get used occasionally although I can understand why Uber put the units in it has.

A good example of this in Spring are the stealth units (gremlins for example)... not used often as they are T2 and require quite a bit of power to use, but if you are against a camper they can prove devastating (sneak them in to the enemy's main reactors... un-cloack and BOOM). Similarly the EMP missile launchers, only used on occasions but in the right hands they're truly evil.

We know for definite that there are quite a few units incoming over the upcoming new builds, what would be nice is to get some clarification on what has made the cut as the 'lets talk units' thread is so long I can't face wading through that lot. I'd personally like to see some variation with some unique weapons (as in terms of weapons and explosions everything is essentially the same at the moment). Some big long duration energy blasts like the penetrator for example would look stunning blazing across the battle field :)

It would be good if we had a thread organizing what units have been suggested in Nuetrino's thread.

I tried to organize them, but there were so many redundant or derivative suggestions, and some are just so different... It would require a small database.

Heh, that's the point. Maybe I can put something together if no one is interested.

Also, everyone should like his OP, because there are hundreds of posts in there but like 4 likes and a like is like a thank you or a please.
