I was thinking of something throughout my time playing planetary annihilation that I don't see happening during beta but when the full game comes out it would be understandable. that of course is ranking. I would do something like how black ops 2 "league play" worked out. People would play an amount of matches (a good deal to avoid losses from network or bad days) and based on the skill of the player and how many matches were won they would be placed in a league (in Black ops 2 it was iron, bronze, silver, gold, platinum, some green league of some sort and lastly world rank). within these leagues there would be multiple ladders (instead of one ladder for bronze there would be about 10, 50 or more due to game population) and people within the leagues would be mostly matched with others within the league and compete to win matches and climb the ladder. I cant remember if there was any meaning behind getting in the top 3, 5 or 10 but all I know if that I felt really happy knowing I was number one or top 5 of the ladder I was in. So my question is if we can have something like that within the game or mabye even outside the game that oversees matches or records statistics from games. TL;DR: Do you personally want league matches in PA to compete for the top? or no? I wanna hear your thoughts.
I would prefer a global ladder, than one split up. The main reason for it is its near impossible to determine the best without it, you can only be assigned to a group. Take SC2 for a good example, thankfully they implemented grandmaster league, but its still not what i would consider good enough.
I would like to see global rankings definitely, and possibly some sort of league system too. Has Uber said whether they plan to use elo, trueskill or something else? I'm completely sold on trueskill having seen it in action for FAF.
who knows what they will decide, there has been talk about what game modes for a ladder, but not about how it would work. I personally just want a global ladder, i dont really care much about wether they use ELO or TS. Not sure about the ELO system, but the TS system is very abusable with small populations (<2000).
I like the League of Legends system, where you have divisions so you can measure your progress, but the division isn't related to the match-making. So I can be Silver II, but still be matched with people from Gold III or Bronze I. The community is not going to be large enough to allow for silo'd matching.
This is the only Strategy game that I've commited myself to play, therefore I'm not very good but I wouldnt say that I'm necessarily bad either, however this means I don't know much on how leagues and ladders normally work within strategy games and figured something like this when more people start to play on full release. and maybe there could be tournaments for people within top 3 of multiple ladders for different leagues. (bronze tournament, silver tournament. etc)
