I always clear some processes out when I play PA to make it run faster. I close out my DWM.EXE and EXPLORER.EXE even. However, I never gave it much thought until now, but one that takes up 100k ram is AdBlocker.exe. I realized this time, my internet explorer isn't even up and wasn't up at any time before I started the game... ...does the coherent UI cause web browser plugins like AdBlocker.exe to start up and run a good bit of your processing power when you start Planetary Annihilation? I am adding this to the bug tracker, being third party perhaps there is nothing to be done, but for anyone reading this, spread the word around to check for this kind of thing.
This game doesn't take much in the way of processing power. Its mostly a RAM hog and graphics hog atm. so long as you avoid thrashing I don't think clearing up processes isn't going to have that much effect
I am a pro at clearing processes to make my computer run a game, I have been a welfare computer owner for my whole life (joking really, I have poor computer systems but I do buy them with my modest job). That being said, I am in no way encouraging anyone to close processes randomly, nor do I take responsibility for BSODs related to it. I am simply asking if Planetary Annihilation coherent ui happens to open AdBlocker.exe or any other web browser plug ins? Pretty much anyone who watches a lot of youtube could have AdBlocker, and anyone with AdBlocker could be experiencing a few seconds of lag when they first start PA from it's loading. Then, they go to the forums and complain about it. I was just noticing something that rarely causes the start-up sign-in to delay my letter type.
Does not occur on my computer, but i'm not using Internet Explorer (it's the first thing i uninstall from my computer and install Google Chrome + adblocker) with that combination there isn't even a adblocker service on my windows 7
Service? Or you mean process? And there isn't even? Do you mean there isn't a process even when you run google chrome? Or do you mean there is one, just not one when you run PA. Hey, I just threw a thought out here. It happens reliably to me now, I am sure after testing it. But if it is a secluded issue then I am not looking for a fix of course. I will close the process every time I start the game, along with the desktop processes, anyway. So no harm no foul. Just thought maybe this was common but lesser known.
Coherant UI is a webscript based scripting api maybe it uses built in system browser calls of some sort that are unintentionally causing the opening of the adblocker system.
Interesting catch Trophy, I run Adblocker myself. I will test this as well. Anything for MOAR power!!
Can I just interject here to say that for all I've heard, AdBlock is a reputable program, but AdBlocker is not the same thing at all, and may not be trustworthy.
Is it this? http://adblockpro.com/ Because that's not a very reputable program. Does it even work? There is nothing in the UI that should be triggering that to run. It is far more likely it just runs on boot or something. Check your msconfig startup and services to see if it's starting on boot.
Most adblockers are plugins that run inside a browser, not an external process so most people should be unaffected by this. However that particular one is an external program that may be watching all TCP traffic for HTML and scanning / modifying how other programs receive them to remove ads. There are also devices that can sit on your home network or as part of your router that do the same. It's plausible these kinds of devices or programs could cause problems with PA. We use TCP and JSON for a significant portion of our data communications between the client and server, which is the same as many web apps. I could see an external adblocker application slowing down PA because it thinks the game data traffic is coming from a web app and is trying to parse the data blocks for URLs.
