    Hello there,

I'm a new user of PA, and I was wondering about land and air units design,
is it final? Are tanks going to look as they are right now? Or all units would undergo revamp later in development. I know this game scale is huge, but I think that everyone wants to have army of cool-looking units with neat shooting (and sound) effect.

Pretty much. The Kickstarter pitch video is the desired 'end product' loom and style of the game.

It's unlikely that the style or scale will change at this point.

Yup, if you were expecting something different from the Visualization.....well I'm not sure where you got that idea but yeah.

I'm sure someone will make a visual revamp mod that turns it into what is requested.

Personally, I value playability over visual flare. But... I do love the stylized approach!

Modders will make custom unit set themes I am sure.

Ask for the game, I answered this somewhere else, it is possible for them to add more models to models (details like hatches or pipes), adjust models, add detail textures to them (edging of plates and rivets), and other stuff. But for the most part they intend to use the models right now in some form, and in fact aim at making it look like the visualization.

The visualization had regular geometrically shaped units, not curvy real life modern units. That's what this game has now. Besides a bit of space left for tweaked details to be added, they are there.

Honestly, some units aren't in game yet. Obviously they don't have a model, so that is an example, in such that they WILL have a model when they are made when the game is released.

Well ok guys, thanks a lot for answers! I know that current units is stylized to look like that, and I'm ok with that :) But I would like to see some more details like extra particle effect, animations etc, just look at Supreme Commander 2 battles, they were epic!

I am quite sure there will be lots of cool FX stuff like particles and animations, but it doesn't make much sense to implement these time consuming features until the things that use them are done! I mean, just look at the first pass animation for planet smashing- if that is anything to go by, this game will be incredible to look at. With the lighting and planet textures, it already is good looking.

I also love the blockyness, and puffy explosions.

    So you
Me and a lot of other people were okay with the general graphic style of the kickstarter video but did not even imagine that this first very early units were final.
The units are so low detail it hurts my eyes. This is nothing you would expect from a game developer that has experienced modelers and got 2million from kickstarter.
It looks like 1 guy rushed out the models in less than one month.

I know I am not the only one with this opinion but most people who dont like this and other things like visual scale already gave up on the project because it does not feel epic and awesome to play with ugly toys.

I'm confused, you say you like the Aesthetic.....but don't like the Aesthetic?

    Which is it?

It was more than once announced that the kickstarter video was the target the developers were aiming for. Why would you expect anything else?
Also you are pretty insulting to the devs. Your post only tells that you probably don't know what you are talking about.

The units look pretty much spot on in terms of Kickstarter video? Haven't seen it in a while, but from what I remember, the units in game are pretty much EXACTLY what I was expecting. Also, with the scale of battles I am hoping we have, it would be silly to have lots of really complicated looking units...
Plus yeah, I would imagine special effect are forthcoming.

EDIT: watch this: and tell me how different the units are (not including extra polish like shading/particle effects etc.) compared to what is in game?

You are right, everything is fine, thats why there are so many people playing PA. Most people who dont like it just leave and dont make a post because people like you always try to defend everything.

If you like the unit design then be happy with it. I am not and the majority of gamers will say the same. Its low detail and looks like toystory, not like Planetary Annihilation. We are not in 1997 when TA was released, we expect more detail and even TA units had a better style. The laser turrets in PA just look ridiculous with barrels of tanks.

And about the aesthetics what I was saying is that I like the comic graphical style, its okay, but not the low poly buildings, units and props.

Fair enough, I didn't mean to make it sound like an attack on you personally. I guess we differ in the fact that I took the Kickstarter as more of an accurate representation of what the final product would look like, and you were presumably expecting a fair bit of change? This isn't necessarily an unreasonable assumption, but I guess it depends which mindset you have coming into the game which has caused this issue.
I'm curious as to why you think the majority of gamers won't like this style, have you seen a poll somewhere? At the end of the day, if half the people do like the visuals, and half the people don't, UBER can't win either way and should just do what they want! I, personally, am loving the simple, toybox style design.

EDIT: P.S. Defending something you like isn't unreasonable, as long as it is done constructively :)

Low poly means that you can have lots more on screen, doesn't it? Because you don't have to display 2 1 million poly object, you can display 1 million 2 poly objects.

I think its interesting to see how this is playing out. Because its a Kickstarter the game development is out in the open. I have lost count how many times in the streams Uber have said things like "you are seeing the first pass so dont take this as final" or "this is just the placeholder". I think this whole process from Kickstarter to final release will be a good test of what effect being so open has on game development.

Also I just watched the kickstarter video again... Those units look so much cooler and more detailed than the current models. However all the core units and features from the KS video are there. I think this is mainly an Art/graphics/style issue. I would of thought a quality RTS player like Bhaal would have been more interested in gameplay and balance (maybe is not the same Bhaal?)

I know is kinda off-topic but are the units going to interact with world like break trees and so on in full game? Clipping through terrain does not look good. Also units formations or just not trying to get all of them in one spot would be nice :) Back on topic, units in Supreme Commander 2 are very detailed with hq textures, and there are a lots of them. Just saying:)

I would like to talk about gameplay but everything is alpha and not finished and lots of units and mechanics are missing.
And yes the biggest problem is that we dont know what a placeholder is and what not. I did not expect the kickstarter video to demonstrate final unit detail/art, because it was just a early video showing basic simple units.
