Hi, I just bought PA yesterday, but i seem to be having difficulty setting the ui up. when i click on a unit, I dont get a visual indicator showing that i have done so. etc. a ring or square around the unit. neither can i see my qued up build orders when i hold down shift. Since this is my first time playing this game, i dont know if its simply this build that doesnt have theese features, or if i am doing something wrong. this is the settings i am using: show unit icons> range depend show metal spot icons> on Show stat bars> value depend show focus> always focus behaviour>selected show build previews>always selections squares>on selection icons>on orbital shell> modal show terrestrial>always
I have tried both the steam version, and the PA Launcher version, the problem persists. I have no idication of what units i have selected. and the building que (shift click) isnt showing. It is working, The graphical overlay just is'nt showing at all.
It does show a square around units you click (and unit pictures and numbers in bottom left hand side). The UI crashes a lot upon first download. I get it still every first game I play of new builds, at this point I just vsAI first game and join/leave. Restart and next game, bam, UI is working. There is also a button to refresh the UI. I... can't seem to recall it (what kind of expert am I, right?) While you are on the forums, I suggest you check tons of resources, as this is a beta game lacking a lot of things until release. Search mods section for UI improvements like commander health and better icons and additional UI informations. Search hotkeys for several things, I bet you didn't know one of the keys shows "unit firing range" when held but when released the firing ranges go away as to not be a mess of colors.
Should eventually scale it to zoom/mesh them together around tight groups of units selected together. Also, would this help? Add this png as a replacement to the original one in the game, in the "...Planetary Annihilation\PA\media\ui\alpha\special_icon_atlas\img\icons" file path. Or, based off my initiative, make your own custom colored one, whatever color you think stands out more against the majority of landscapes ingame, with whatever tones or whatnot you want. Just a note here, make sure to use paint.net or something better than MSPaint, as you will need "Transparent" not White. Again, mods brah, mods... (EDIT: This was a first swing, after testing it I realized the center actually CAN'T be colored, it cuts off in-game where the regular cursor cuts off. That being said, it is noticeable brighter and fatter-lined, and again, one could change the color) (EDIT EDIT: No, I just in fact suck at this. I gave you the wrong file path, or at least that file path does something different. I'll edit it in a second. Also, I could do better on the selection box, so I beast'd it up a little bit moar.) (EDIT EDIT EDIT: Okay THERE, damn my modding skills blow, but I finally got that SOB. Edited in main post and here, file path to unit selection box is: "...Planetary Annihilation\PA\media\ui\alpha\special_icon_atlas\img\icons" )
Take a look at this video from the alpha (53072) about a minute in. theres a nice blue square around the commander whenever he is selected, and also he can see his build order (shift click) indicated by white blueprints where buildings are gonna be place. But this feature has been removed from the beta?
The first option in Settings -> UI is cinematic. This option is for capturing gameplay footage, and it turns off all in-game UI features (selection feedback, build order previews, focus paths (the green/white line things). It sounds like this feature is turned on. Please toggle the option off and on then apply the change. If the problem still persists, please let me know. Also we have discovered a bug with our patcher (and Steam sometimes delivers bad bits) so please verify files with either our patcher or steam.
Could we get descriptions of all the UI settings? There are not that many, but I don't know what some of them do.
That's a release thing. Describing options in the "hotkeys" topic in the beta subforum, sounds like an idea though. I thought cinematic view was a mod, not a basic vanilla game option lol.
