Hi everyone first post. This morning I tried to launch a game and I got in(vs AI) everything was fine - with hdr on etc. Now whenever I try to launch a game I run into one of 2 problems - a) I can't actually join the game - ie the "join" button will not place me into the game or the ready button will just not do anything - it will play a sound like I have clicked but not working. b) the game will launch but will just be a black screen - I understand a lot of you are also having this and I did find the thread about trying to fix it but nothing worked. Is it a server issue? Attached is my dxdiag, my drivers are current. Also - would it matter that I am in South Africa? Ie pings of +-300-400 to everywhere.
Your drivers aren't really latest: Code: Card name: AMD Radeon HD 6800 Series Driver Date/Size: 7/24/2013 02:39:10, 1251120 bytes You need to download and install latest version from AMD website: http://support.amd.com/en-us/download/desktop?os=Windows 7 - 64 It's known behavior. Try those workarounds: http://steamcommunity.com/app/233250/discussions/2/810938810899540110/ Most likely you just have to wait before red circle planet generation indicator turns green and only then press "ready". If you do that game should start properly really quick. You problem not likely related to high latency. Slow or unstable internet connection it's really big problem for PA because game is really bandwidth-greedy, but it's different problem which looks different.
Ok trying those beta drivers. The AMD tool said mine were latest so wasn't sure. will report back tomorrow Appreciate it.
I've ran perfectly playable games for years in Supcom with this ping. It's more an issue of line stability than high pings. And my line is perfectly stable. And before you say "but PA is beta" I know that. I'm not expecting flawless 10 player games until at least release.
Look i'm sorry to tell you this but get fibre its going to be one of two ways to run this. The other is lan.
You're wrong, devs stated that regular ADSL would work: "Planetary Annihilation is targeting a modest 1 megabit connection for players" link: http://forrestthewoods.com/the-tech-of-planetary-annihilation-chronocam/ Very interesting blog post ! A 300-400 ping could be a pain though.
RTS's are not as ping dependant as FPS's. I don't know the technical details but I have never had a problem with any RTS before. Even with pings of 500 I've had lag free games.
