Game stalls on start

I launched the game, placed my PW in, and chose the commander and color I wanted to be. No error coming up but the game is up , waited for the green light to start, went green and I pressed the play button, but the game just sits and still is sitting on my screen as shown on the Screen shot.

What version of catalyst are you using ??
is it 13.9 or later?
can you try updating your Radeon HD 6900 series card to a newer driver.

a lot of people seem to be having success using the latest catalyst 13.9 or the 13.22 beta drivers

I only updated it Saturday as by when this was started https://forums.uberent.com/threads/cant-start-a-game.53438/#post-816038

The driver is the latest, unless I download a beta, with god know how many problems in it.

i'll review both threads and see what i can find to fix your issue.
can you try deleting the game and re-installing it if you haven't yet, while i check the other thread
maybe a file corrupted during download or a file from a previous build is interfering.

I have restarted the game and it is now running.

The AI are not too good on ocean Planets. Good game played, but I won.

The AI currently has issues with bad starts, if you make a planet with little water and lots of open space be careful the AI can be quite aggressive then.
At this point in time its a bit hard to find a balance between the AI not doing much or it totally PWN-ing you when you make a planet in the system editor.
The AI currently doesn't build Naval, but it can build NUKEs so if it does have room to expand and enough metal near by watch out

I found the AI aggressive on small planets Value of 2. The one I played on was Value 3, had oceans and large with some small Islands on it. My start was in the ocean, I built Extractors on three points and headed to land, and built up there, and on the sea side I built a Ship building site and then an advanced one near it.
