Has anyone around here played this game? I kinda want to get involved in this kind of game, but I am not sure if 15 GB of download is worth the try. I watched some videos, but I am mostly concerned if it is paytowin, had bad experience with paytowin before, don't want to waste time again. If not what is their market, how do they make money and is it possible for free to play players to get those things?
    Anyone?

I've played! It's pretty and I enjoyed it. I never did level my character though and quit before it became free to play. I really enjoyed the Rifts - sometimes I would log on and not even play the main story line and just chase the rifts with other players. I got a sweet skeleton horse as a drop from one of those.

But that was a long time ago..... A long, long time ago.....

That sounds interesting, I like hunting for loot, but who doesn't like hunting for loot.
Did you try pvp? How was it?

I don't remember playing any pvp. I think I was focused on leveling, but would get distracted by rifts :p

I really liked the world events in it, but other than that, I was pretty meh about it. But with the free to play, I was thinking about giving it a go again. With all my free time. >.<

I played. I really enjoyed it, but then I found myself losing interest in all MMOs. I even tried to go back to WoW and found myself bored. Still, as an MMO it's up there.

I had same thing happen to me with lineage 2, played over two years, pve was boring. PvP though was a lot of fun, especually when you manage to overpower someone who has better gear than you and is part of the clan that is dominating the server. Also massive events were fun, clans team up or betray, everyone rushed for the best loot in game, so much drama and bitching, those were the days. But then my favorite class got massively nerfed, I had to change because it could do almost nothing, after a few months I just got bored.

Is it because of the combat? It seems kinda lame to me, from what I saw from youtube.

Rift is F2p MMO done right. There really is no paytowin in MMOs unless you are trying to be top tier raiding and such. It's just pay for convenience. Though personally I am not a fan of the combat in Rift. Too slow.

If you are looking for a cool and new MMO to try I would suggest Neverwinter Online. Combat is fluid and awesome, no paytowin, PvP is really fun and there is in-game player created missions/content so the game will never get old and boring.

Nah, my main problem is more of my general ennui where MMO's are concerned. Just haven't seen much new. The worlds events in Rift were the one pretty cool evolution on a theme, and where almost any level character could participate. But there was no real lasting impact of those events, and after a few of them, they felt as transient as every other MMO event. I'm a bit jaded on the MMO space, though. In addition to playing almost every MMO ever made at least for a bit, working on two of them.. I think it'll take a pretty big step forward to really engage me again on them.

Everquest Next looks like they might be doing some of the things I've been hoping to see - real impact on the world, and more player involvement in creation, but it'll be a while before we see for sure. And what appears to be a fairly interesting combat mechanics system.

Is it the one that will have enviroment that will be destructible? I have seen something like that in TB video a while ago but I just don't remember game's name.

That's part of what they're promising. They've built an entire voxel based engine which should allow for some seriously cool, crazy stuff, depending on how they do it.

oh god yes, this is all I ever wanted from a game.
The only thing it is missing is creating your own weapons, to make them look and do abilities you want them to do.

Damn, I can't play that. If you can build stuff in an huge world I will never reach a point where I'm able to stop.

Wow. That game is almost everything I want out of a survival game... Too bad it's going to be a traditional mmo.

Assuming they mostly deliver on all the stuff they're hyping up, I'll probably give that game a go.
