I've updated my drivers and installed the game in the standard folder, what coul be wrong? 9 out of 10 times I start the game, when I have to choose a location for my commander the screen remains black for a minute or so and then windows terminates the program. Someimes though I have been able to play for a couple of minutes. Any help would be much appreciated.
It's most likely happen due to 32-bit OS memory limit of 2GB. Game usually need much more than than 2GB, so you should try to use smaller planets. You can also bypass this problem using workaround you can find in this thread: https://forums.uberent.com/threads/crashing-on-32-bit-windows-heres-a-guide-to-help.51990/ But best solution is upgrade to 64-bit OS.
Having the same problem; 2600K @ 4.4Ghz GTX 770 8GB DDR 3 128GB SSD (agility 3) Windows 8.1 Didn't do this 3 weeks ago, then I took a break, now I can't start a game. Is it a Windows 8.1 issue, or the latest Nvidia drivers? They seemed to cause problems in a few games. Games usually need much more than 2GB of RAM? What games? That's not really true. The system in total when a game is running might need 3.5 - 4, but not a game by itself. I can only think of Skyrim with a lot of mods installed that would take up anywhere near that much by itself.
Try deleting the game and re-downloading it, it seems to fix some issues there maybe some files left from the older build interfering. if this fails let me know
Also BattleFeild 3 uses more than 4gb ram whenever its available. i have seen other games with high ram usage too!
Think we're getting a bit off topic here, but the most I've seen BF4 using on mine is 1.8 GB.. Anyway, uninstalling now.
I was talking exactly about PA. For normal 3-5 planets gameplay it's might use 4-5GB of RAM depends on many factors, but 8GB of RAM should be enough for playing. But if you want PA can use eve 12, 16 or 32GB of RAM in system editor. There also some planets that currently use much more RAM than others.
also , at this current point in beta i think each model for units is an individual model , soon it will be handled by instancing (if i remember right from another thread neutrino commented in). this will greatly reduce memory usage on massive armys. Procedural generation can also chew up ram in its generating process, after it can be ok, this will most probably lower when features stop going in and optimizations are started.
Interesting, the optimisations you have to make to get a game suitable for a wide range of specifications. After an uninstall and reinstall, the game launches and I can play just fine. Thanks.
Thanks for your answer. I tried smaller planets, this didn't work. Now I've installed Ubuntu 64 bit, and I'm getting the following error: [00:02:31.371] INFO Log file /home/jeroen/.local/Uber Entertainment/Planetary Annihilation/log/PA-00-02-31.371.txt opened [00:02:31.371] INFO Loaded 0 mods [00:02:31.636] INFO GL_VENDOR: ATI Technologies Inc. Unfortunately currently PA is unplayable with AMD proprietary drivers on Linux due to driver bugs: PA#2343 If you advanced user you might try to use open source drivers. Check this topic for mode details: https://forums.uberent.com/threads/black-screen-ubuntu-13-04.52558/ I'm personally playing under Linux with open drivers and PA work nicely. Though it's can be tricky to use if you're new to Linux.
ca can you post the pa log file too . C:\Users\"YourUserName"\AppData\Local\Uber Entertainment\Planetary Annihilation\log\PA-00-00-00.000.txt "Click sort by date so the most recent one is at the top, And post that one here." also first delete all the log file then run the game once until it crashes , this will leave just one log file in the directory if you currently have too many to work out which is most recent
Nuked the old folder. Looks like a reboot and reinstall has solved it for me though. Will post if anything comes up though
