My game of planetary annialiation will not start. When I treid to start it more manualy by going to the folder in which it was installed, and clicking on the file itself, the OS spat back a response that this was not a Win-32 application. IS there a way to correct this problem? Perhaps a win-32 version of PA? [wasn't it supposed to be Win 32 compatible? I am using Win-XP and I have 2 Gigs of ram in my computer. I also use SDD's in place of Hd's.
I belive that it's going to be 32 eventually, but I could be wrong Most games nowadays are going to be 64bit. The 32 bit version of the game may have more bugs to do with variables overflowing. It may be time to forget about the hardware of ssds and upgrade to windows 8.
In the system requirements it clearly says that you need at least Win 7 64bit. PA also requires a lot of RAM, more than your 32 bit system can handle; 4 GB of RAM is the minimum, 8 are recommended. So, I'm sorry to say that, but you will probably never be able to run PA on your machine.
Can I ask for a clarification please? Why is there a x86 folder in steamapps if there is no 32bit application?
Ya... Too bad. I am thinking of -not- going to Win 8, which means I will probably just get the linux version when I set up my Linux machine instead. It would be a shame to have to get a refund. Esp. since I wanted to enjoy the updated game.. Ho well... one of the orginal advertisements made the game sound like it might run in 2Gigs, as well...
Does this mean that PA will run with less than 4 GB RAM? Go Win7, it's way better then Win8 in pretty much everything and still better than Linux when it comes to gaming.
For PA it's depends on GPU you have. If you're owner of Nvidia card PA most likely will work better than on Windows. Unfortunately situation with AMD graphics drivers is bad.
I agree 100% with SXX. Just use the nvidia closed source driver and you will outperform W8.1 in quite some parts, see this link: http://www.phoronix.com/scan.php?page=article&item=nouveau_nvidia_win81&num=3
I seriously doubt that it's actually outperform it, but PA have few serious bottlenecks which affect Linux version less than Windows one.
My english is not the best.. Let's say it this way. There are scenarios where Linux performs better than Windows on the same system. Ofc using more or less the latest builds.
