Hey, I was hoping that someone could help me with this. PA was working for me fine last night. But when I got on today, it crashes almost instantly ("pa.exe has stopped working"). I've verified all files, I've deleted and reinstalled it, and all my drivers are up to date. Does anyone have any suggestions about where to go from here?

    Please upload your DxDiag.txt

Also do you mean previous version (55493) working for you and new one is not?

+1, Ive been playing since alpha with no problems, something in this patch is causing problems when I try to either join a hosted game (I click join game and it gets to that interim screen but crashes before making it to the lobby), or when the planet is doing its background loading if I start a hosted lobby.

    Reason of crash is this:
    Code:
Sound Tab 1: No sound card was found. If one is expected, you should install a sound driver provided by the hardware manufacturer.
PA crash on start when no sound card detected, it's known behavior. Usually this issue related to some weird Windows (or sound card drivers) behavior that's sound card not detected in system until you connect speakers or headphones.

Also your Nvidia drivers outdated a bit, download latest drivers from Nvidia website. ;)

Lol, was relying on their program to tell me if the driver was current or not. Updated it, but game still crashes.
Before I go out and buy a sound card, any suggestions? And are there any known compatibility issues with specific sound cards?

So do you have speakers or headphones connected? Sometimes it's not enough to just install drivers.

It's not problem of game, it's some problem with your OS/drivers/etc. As you might see DxDiag do not see any sound card in your system and this something need to be fixed.

I know its an issue with my current set up. I don't have a sound card installed. I use headphones (astro A50's). No speakers are currently connected. I can pick one up today. But before I do that, I just want to make sure that whatever I get doesn't have compatibility issues with the game.

I'm guessing your headphones are USB? That means the "sound card" is built in to the headphone transmitter. As long as it's plugged in, and you can hear sounds from Windows, it should be fine. If the game won't work unless directX detects a sound card, that's a bug, IMO, since plenty of people use USB-based sound these days.

Yip, that fixed it. Hadn't been turning on my headphones because I was trouble shooting and had nothing to listen to :/
I agree with you that this is a bug. I shouldn't have to make sure my headphones are turned on to play the game. But at least the work around is easy enough

So you only have USB headphones?

Also can you please say what motherboard do you have? Did you install sound drivers for your motherboard-integrated sound card?

Obviously it's should be fixed, but it's really rare behavior. :)

I have an Asus M5A99FX pro r2.0. I did go ahead and uninstall and reinstall the Realtek drivers (version Version 5.10.0.7022&6.0.1.70) for the motherboard-integrated sound card. Seems that might have fixed the issue. Or at least, the one time I've tried since reinstalling it, I was able to get to the log in screen without having to turn my headphones on. Possibly never installed correctly the first time? I've never actually plugged anything into the audio ports.

    Thank you.

    Yes, looks like driver issue.
If you upload new DxDiag here I can check it.
