Well duh, but how do you fit square buildings of various sizes within a Hex, triangle or what ever non-square-shaped grid?

Maybe a grid would be nice for orbital. It would create a bit more perspective. Or make a way to highlight orbital and then let the grid appear.

The top would have to be moddified a bit, tot many lines.

In this entire thread I don't see anyone state what problem this solves. The title says less micro and all I can say to that is lolwut? Watching videos of games played I don't see anyone struggling with buildings because no one cares where they go down, you dump them on the map generally in large numbers. I think a grid is just going to **** with that as you get weird laggy feeling silhouettes.

Starcraft 2 was used as an example earlier, which completely missed the point that it's a factor in that game because tactics like ramp blocking are a key part of the game and the grid assists in that.

It's because most RTS players are OCD. Our bases have to be perfectly organized and filled with right-angled roadways, bypasses and fields of resource-generating buildings.

Also because every single RTS game in EVER has done grids.

the buildings wouldn't be right up next to each other obviously, they would just be spaced out evenly

They why use a grid at all? we can already do that, the point of a grid system to to maximize the use of space, if there is going to be space anyways you don't need a grid system at all and you can just place buildings by hand for th same effect.

i know, the reason people want a grid is so their bases look neat and tidy with everything nicely lined up not so much to cram the most amount of stuffs into the smallest area
