For every good game to come out of the 'standard' publishing method there are at least 3 bad ones, not to mention that if you list many of the 'good' ones and look into the background you'll find they didn't have to deal with 'regular' circumstances in most cases.

I never said it's all sunshine and rainbows, but without said publishers there wouldn't be any bad games, nor any good games, nor any games at all. You can't blame business-minded people to mind business. The last few years HAS seen negative trends towards creative freedom - i know-. I'm just saying we shouldn't demonize them.

No, we really should, because if we wait around for them to realize what thier practices are doing to the industry as a whole it'll be far too late. It's why I haven't bought anything from EA since the original Dead Space and Bad Company 2. It's why I support games like PA that avoid Publishers.

We can make as many threads as we want critiquing Publishers for thier practices as we want, but it won't matter so long as the masses keep throwing money at them.

Games existed before publisher and there are still a lot of game being made without publisher.
Saying that there would be no games without publisher is just plainly wrong.

A very long time ago EA was a humble studio that made video games. Good video games. They started making profits and investing more into making games. They begun making all kinds of different, good games. Their profits rolled and at some point of time they went to stock. New owners wanted annual rise to the rise of profits. They stopped making games themselves and started to outsource game development to smaller studios. They started publishing.

I believe that is the fate of every company there is. Sooner or later when the idealistic leaders change into stock owners you will see the old, good company turned into a cold money sucking machine designed to keep the fat cats happy.

We can already see this with valve. They have purchased smaller studios so they can produce more games. The day Gabe Newell steps down will be a sad day for all of us gamers.

So what can we do about it? Nothing really. Just keep buying the games you like and don't be surprised when your favorite company turns into Activision.

Now I don't want to sound like a conspiracy theorist. But the problem that publishers bring isn't really isolated to the games industry at all. The very foundation of our economic system encourages competition, individualism and distorts the values that makes us social beings.

Publishers like EA have become so large that voting with your wallet doesn't matter anymore. Whether you buy their games or not, there are still millions of people that do. Crowdfunding on the other hand has some risks as well. (Possibly)Slow development, incomplete or smaller scale games, incomplete funding causing the game to get cancelled and any investment lost.

Both ideas are centered around the idea of money, and each of the funding methods have different advantages and disadvantages. It is completely upto yourself to decide what gives you the most value.

I agree, a patch would make me stop playing SupCom and come back to PA, at least for a while.

I don't know why, but I feel that new units are coming our way.
But somehow I doubt that it will be this week.

I'm surprised Electronic Arts doesn't get flagged as a curse word on none EA forums. It should. They are all about money. They buy companies and sack all their staff, forget about the half baked games they pump out yearly.

I said this in another thread about this, but .... a new patch is on deck and should be ready to release in the very near future. We'll have the build notes then. (Sometimes, features get regressed if they're not as functional as we want them to be, so that's why I'm being so vague here.)

Can't wait! And I completely understand about being vague. I've had to do the same thing many times on my programming projects.
