I think that new chat messages should be read to us with text to speech. I think that would be a cool option/ mod.

While I'm not much for Voice Commands, that ArmA 3 video looked really cool.

And I can imagine something like:
You are attacking an enemy somewhere east of your base with group 1 when suddenly your base is attacked from the west. It would be cool if you could just "group 2, defend base west" while still microing your group 1 through enemy lines.

You would probably need some AI involved as well to correctly interpret your commands, or they would have to be way too specific.

Honestly, that was mostly Microsoft competing with itself. The majority of their users are CoD players who already use voice chat for team coordination in their "games", precluding it from being used for voice commands. Also, since it only takes them a few button presses to start CoD, and the UI is slick enough to make anything else fairly fast, there's little need for voice commands.

It'd make a nice mod but I'm gonna be Skyping with my bro-op partner more likely than not. Which means, functionally, I can say "Defend west base" and it'll happen.

    I'm glad you saw reason.

There's no way that voice commands could HURT the game so if it's simple to expose functionality to let modders use the microphone (for this, or anything else) then I say it'll be a great idea.

Also, the main problem with text-to-speech is how jarring it is. It NEVER sounds lifelike. But this topic isn't about text2speech.

Did you ever see messages in chat? I doubt google translate can read them properly. :D

You'll "win" when there's a working, not-awful implementation of voice commands in PA. You'd better get to work.
