can you please post your PA log file. C:\Users\"YourUserName"\AppData\Local\Uber Entertainment\Planetary Annihilation\log\PA-00-00-00.000.txt "Click sort by date so the most recent one is at the top, And post that one here."
welcome, I'm not really sure what the issue is. It could be you're running a Quadro FX 1800. Also the card has less than one RAM. You need at least 1 - 2 GB of RAM more is better. Quadro are not really designed for video games in mind.
that quadro is a workstation GPU usually used by 3d modelers and cad users for its CUDA features, its Ram allocation is dynamic. and it supports OpenGL 3.0 so it should be fine!. but it still may be the issue it has 1.7gb shared ram at the moment which is definitely capable of running the game. (OP's DxDiag.txt shows that) --edits-- OMG i so badly fail with my touchscreen typing skills, lol fixed my typo's and incomplete sentences
Thing is if you look at the specifications on nvidia's website it shows 768 MB of GDDR3. Besides that you have highly optimized driver specifically for enterprise environment. That could be causing the problem.
I've got an NVIDIA Quadro 2000 on my work computer. When the PA Beta released I was desperate to play it (and net hadn't yet been activated where I was living) so I DLed it and tried it on my work comp. Managed to get into the game but games would lockup pretty early into them every time. So yeah these cards seem to be much better for design than playing games
Found another post where somebody with NVIDIA Quadro NVS 160M crashes. Was directed to update drivers never replied back. https://forums.uberent.com/threads/pa-exe-has-stopped-working.51824/
Dont game with quadro cards. Actualy i dont even see the point of having quadro cards anymore. My CAD programs work fine with my hd7970 and they also did fine on my older cards which was a hd6670 and a GT9600. Seems to me you are just paying big premiums for almost nothing.
Ok there is no stardock software on my computer. There was a long time ago but removed it all. Reason for the Quadro FX is that I do a lot of work in Maya. I checked and made sure all my drivers are updated. Gonna try and give the card more memory now.
Cool, i only suggested stardock stuff because i had deskscapes installed on win 8 and it was causing unusual things to happen in PA and some other games. I see your point for having the quadro, they do seem to handle Maya and 3DS Max quite well, mine did back in the day. But they are great for handling meshes but when it comes to hardware accelerating those things they suffer drastically. i think it's due to them being purposed specifically for enterprise systems, i think its mainly in the drivers, they don't really support OpenGL and directx for Gaming purposes
Maybe i can see if there is a custom gaming driver, i don't really recommend using modded drivers but if your keen and have enough skills to rollback to your current drivers you could give it a try if we find some I wanna get you into the game so you can enjoy it
What driver are you currently using?? Please tell me if installing this driver works ?? http://www.nvidia.com/object/quadro-winblue-win8-win7-winvista-64bit-326.19-beta-driver.html
Ok I did a clean removal and install of up to date drivers. Did a removal of WindowBlinds fx apparently that was still there. Here is a screenshot of what I get after I hit start game
i set my in game setting like this if i get black screen issue for me it's essential to have HDR and AA off or i get the same issue.
I use the fullscreen mode, but i need to change to windowed to get screenshots. (that's why my setting say windowed)
That was definitely your issue with the PA.exe crash, PA uses the operating systems DWM (desktop window manager) and stardock stuff hooks into that process to render borders and FX. it causes many issues in windowed games on my system i love stardock stuff its cool, but a hack always causes issues somewhere down the line Now your getting as far as you are your where most other gamers are now the game should be playable as long as you turn HDR off and AA in the settings, i'll wait until you reply back about it tho incase it doesn't help.
